JOB DESCRIPTION: CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP LEADER

The Contemporary Worship Leader is a part-time position tasked with planning, preparing for, and leading a weekly contemporary worship service, promoting authentic worship, and proclaiming the message of Christ. In most cases this job description will be concerning the second service at Shearer Hills Baptist Church (SHBC). We envision contemporary worship to mean (but not limited to) relatively modern/popular Christian worship songs best performed using guitars, keyboards, and drums.

Contemporary Worship Leader Primary Objectives and Responsibilities

LEADERSHIP

• Lead the congregation in contemporary worship and direct the flow of service.

• Develop a weekly order of service in coordination with the Pastor.

• Facilitate a weekly rehearsal with the contemporary worship team to prepare quality worship on Sundays.

• Coordinate and collaborate with music leaders and teams in other services.

• Recruit, screen and/or develop new musicians and singers.

• Coordinate with the media team.

ABILITIES

• Skilled in vocal and instrumental direction.

• Knowledge and familiarity with contemporary Christian worship songs and trends.

• Quality singing voice and engaging and energetic presence.

• Team player with good relational skills.

• Self-starter who strives for quality.

VOLUNTEERS

• Work collaboratively with volunteers in selecting songs and leading worship.

• Recruit, screen and train new volunteers.

• Identify and develop essential volunteer leadership.

• Provide edification and discipleship among volunteers.

GENERAL

• Have a heart and desire for leading people in modern and contemporary worship.

• Devote time to finding, learning and introducing new modern worship songs that are consistent with Scripture and SHBC's statement of beliefs.

• Protect the unity and culture of volunteers and staff and have fun doing it.

• Be present and visible throughout the church and attend church-wide events.

• Lead worship at intermittent SHBC special events or services as needed (ex: combined worship services, Good Friday worship services, church-wide musicals).

• Participate in staff meetings as able and actively engage in church staff relationships and culture.

• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Pursue a personal, daily walk with Jesus.

• Become an active member of SHBC through financial generosity and service.

• Experience planning, preparing, and leading modern worship services.

• Understand group dynamics and demonstrate ability to build consensus among varying personality types.

• Solid biblical / theological convictions which align with SHBC's statement of faith.

• Must be an effective communicator and team builder.

RELATES TO:

• Reports to the Senior Pastor (currently an interim).

• Works closely with the Minister of Music (currently vacant).

FOR ALL CANDIDATES:

• This is a part-time position paid on a bi-weekly salary. The position is based on completion of the assigned responsibilities. Expect between 15-20 hours per week.
