Description

Providence Baptist Church's next coordinator of music should love leading the church in congregational singing, enjoy theologically rich music, and want to see church members use their musical gifts.

The ideal candidate for this position should value traditional hymns along with modern hymns by Sovereign Grace, City Alight, Indelible Grace, and the Gettys, along with worship music by Maranatha Music, Vineyard Music, Passion, Matt Redman, and others.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

· The Coordinator of Music coordinates, directs, and leads congregational and doctrinally rich singing at Providence Baptist Church in a manner consistent with the Church's mission, values, statement of faith, and theology.

· Works collaboratively with the pastor in his responsibility of selecting songs for congregational singing during the worship service.

· Meets with and collaborates weekly with the senior pastor—in person, on video conference call, or by telephone—to review the songs and order of service for the upcoming Sunday's worship service.

· Leads the other musicians and singers in preparing the music for congregational singing on the Lord's Day.

· Functions as the primary, but not sole, music leader of the Music Team during worship services on the Lord's Day,

· Schedules other singers and musicians for the leading of congregational singing on the Lord's Day

· Works with and under the senior pastor in developing a process for identifying and recruiting church members to sing and play instruments on the Music Team.

· Determines appropriate musical ranges for singers and the congregation.

· Develops weekly lead sheets for appropriate parties.

· Develops weekly chord charts for appropriate parties.

· Suggests and promotes songs to the pastor and congregation that comply with the theological standards of the Church, e.g., no music produced by Bethel, Elevation Worship, Hillsong, and other similar producers affiliated with prosperity gospel churches and heretical groups.

· Transposes or creates chord charts or number charts.

· Oversees the maintenance of all musical instruments owned by the Church.

· Helps to maintain and repair the soundboard and sound system, except for when maintenance and repairs fall outside his abilities and hours worked per week. In such cases, the Music Coordinator is to procure bids on the needed work and 1) hire the contractor if the work falls within his approved spending and budget or 2) submit the bids to the Senior Pastor for board approval.

· Coordinates musical selections for placement in church bulletin, electronic screens, or other ertinent print and electronic formats.

· Coordinates with the Soundboard team for the purpose of projecting song lyrics on the screens for each Sunday Worship Service at the Church.

· Creates the weekly Proclaim file for Sunday Worship and inputs the lyrics into Proclaim (or other software program).

· Learns and plays at least one new song per month from the list of songs sung by the Church.

· Works at developing musical skills that promote congregational singing at the Church.

· Maintains inventory of music supplies and instruments as needed.

· Reports to the senior pastor.

Qualifications

· Willingness to become an active member of the Church upon employment.

· A proficiency in singing and simultaneously playing guitar or piano.

· Knowledge of traditional hymns and contemporary hymns/songs by Sovereign Grace Music, CityAlight Music, Indelible Grace Music, Getty Music, and other music that is congregational in style and doctrinally rich in content.

· The ability to learn, play, and lead the congregation in new songs.

· Should be proficient in reading music.

· Should have experience in working collaboratively with a church music ministry or other musical group.

· A belief that music in the church is a teaching ministry designed to put theology in tune (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).

· A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for Christian deacons (see 1 Tim. 3:8-13).

Work Schedule and Accountability

This position is a part-time position that provides flexibility for the applicant to work another full-time position.

However, the position could become full-time if the applicant were gifted in evangelism and outreach.

Part-time responsibilities typically include one rehearsal per week (currently takes place prior to Sunday morning service), leading the Sunday worship service, seasonal planning meetings, and special events throughout the year. The Coordinator of Music reports to the pastor. Hours can be as low as 10 hours per week.

The Coordinator of Music is a part-time, non-exempt support staff position.
