Job Description
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Lead Pastor
TYPE OF POSITION: Part-Time
HOURS PER WEEK: 16 Hours
WORKING HOURS:
- Flexible, based on some ministry needing to be done on evenings
- Sunday morning requirement at gatherings
- Mandatory Sabbath day per week, consisting of a 24-hour period of rest from work related to all aspects of ministry
- Church staff meeting
COMPENSATION: TBD based on experience* *Redeemer City compensates employees at a competitive rate and takes into consideration experience, qualifications and cost of living.
This is a part-time Director of Kids Ministry role focused on Redeemer City's mission to love God, love people, and make disciples of Jesus. The purpose of this role is to oversee Redeemer City Kids, equip and encourage its volunteers, and come alongside parents as the primary disciple-makers of their children. The Director of Kids Ministry will help cultivate a safe, joyful, and gospel-centered environment where children are welcomed, cared for, and discipled toward faith in Jesus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Preference will be given to those who have experience working alongside children and families, and to those who have formal theological training and/or education in pastoral ministry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Presupposing a passion to see children discipled to become healthy and resilient followers of Jesus, the Director of Kids Ministry will pastor the church through excellent Sunday morning programming, leader development, and by resourcing families. They will:
- Keep the first things first. Be committed to exalting Christ as the hero of the God's Big Story. The Director of Kids will critically engage and utilize curriculum to ensure our children see the beauty of Jesus and hear the gospel each week.
- Train and equip the existing members of the Redeemer City's kid's team to ensure they serve children and families well.
Ensuring Sunday mornings run smoothly, they will:
- Use Planning Center to schedule Kid's Teams
- Ensure the Kid's area is set-up each Sunday morning (including the check-in area) and that teams have everything they need for their classes
- Be present in and around the Kid's area to welcome new families and be available to answer any questions a parent or child might have.
- Actively recruit and train new Redeemer City Kids team members.
- Regularly assess and re-assess the effectiveness of Sunday morning programming, always looking for ways to improve each aspect.
- Regularly attend the main gathering and not serve in kids ministry to ensure they are being served and ministered to by the preaching of the Word.
Ensuring the children in our programs are safe, they will:
- Ensure Redeemer City Kids follows all Plan to Protect, church, insurance, and child safety requirements, including classroom ratios and safety procedures.
- Ensure all volunteers are properly screened, trained, and up to date on criminal record checks and required paperwork.
Recognizing that the discipleship of children is primarily the responsibility of parents, they will:
- Develop and distribute resources for families to use at home.
- Be aware of issues and topics relevant to families and children and be able to speak to them from a biblical perspective.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Understanding that no area of ministry at Redeemer City stands alone, and that all team members lead with a passion for the health of the overall church, you will be called upon to serve in other ministry duties from time to time at the discretion and request of the Lead Pastor.
ABOUT US Redeemer City Church was planted by the Christ City Network in 2023 under the name Christ City Surrey, with a heart to make missional disciples for the sake of the neighbourhood. By God's grace, the church experienced a season of growth and was relaunched in 2026 as an autonomous church under the name Redeemer City. Though some things have changed, our commitment remains the same: to proclaim the gospel, love God, love people, and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Redeemer City Church is reformed in soteriology, continuationist in pneumatology, missional in ecclesiology, and complementarian in polity.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a follower of Jesus, having recognized and repented of personal sin and been baptized as a sign of death to self and life in Jesus. Life must clearly demonstrate a high level of spiritual maturity.
- Must be growing in Christ-likeness demonstrating a commitment to a transformed life through the work of the Holy Spirit in spiritual disciplines such as, prayer, study, giving, fasting, solitude, confession, unity, worship, etc.
- Must have a clear sense of God's calling to ministry at Redeemer City with much passion for the calling, specifically sensing a call to working with children and families.
- Ability to relate and work well with team members, whether staff or volunteer. Have a good attitude, contributing constructively to group discussion.
- Demonstrate a caring heart for others.
- Willing to mop the floor.
- Must agree with Redeemer City's Mission, Vision, Values, and Statement of Faith, understanding that all areas of ministry do not stand alone but fit under the umbrella of Redeemer City's vision and goals.
- Should be an enthusiastic and creative team leader who is willing to work with current staff and volunteers, with an eye to equipping others for ministry through ongoing discipleship.
