Director of Local Outreach

Job Overview

The goal of this position is to identify opportunities for outreach through relationships within the three-mile radius of the church's campus and mobilize our members into service, becoming a liaison between the church and the community. Essentially, we are hoping to find someone who can lead our church in service opportunities by reaching out to neighborhoods in need around our church, working with the homeless population, providing cultural trainings for our congregation, and working with our current outreach programs like our sports program, ELL classes, and preschool.

Job Description

Planning and Execution

a. Develop a long-term plan for mobilizing the membership of Cedar Springs to serve and build

relationships with the community within a three-mile radius surrounding the church campus

through four main areas of focus: neighborhoods, the homeless community, schools, and our

sports program.

b. Lead the effort in coordination with the other ministries of the church to develop a church culture

that is welcoming to those in the community.

2. Leadership and Management

a. Recruit, train, and deploy volunteers for service by providing ongoing opportunities to serve both

with our ministry partners and with our neighbors in the three-mile radius surrounding the church

campus.

b. Serve as the staff person to the Deacon Good Samaritan Fund and the administrator of the

Matthew 25 Account.

c. d. Participate in the walk-in/benevolence team alongside other staff members.

Coordinate service opportunities with ministries that serve the homeless population as well as

trainings internally (ex: Fig Tree, warming centers, Compassion Coalition trainings, etc.)

e. Coordinate service opportunities with high-need neighborhoods (i.e. Lakeview).

f. Create a support system for high-need families at local schools, starting with A.L. Lotts.

g. Lead and develop the Community Outreach volunteer team.

3. Ministry Coordination

a. Work with the sports ministry to develop an evangelism program for parents and referees

involved each season.

b. Work with the Director of the Weekday School to provide outreach to the scholarship families on

our campus.

c. Work with the CSPC accounting department to create a department budget and to provide

financial support to Local Mission partners (regular and one-time gifts to mission agencies,

missionaries, and partner organizations).

communicate the goals and events of the ministry.

a. b. Remain in compliance with the Cedar Springs Employee Handbook and Staff Covenant.

Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for extended periods of time.

Ability to attend and participate in service functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in working with communities, neighborhoods, or nonprofits

Experience developing and implementing long-term strategic plans.

Experience managing both volunteers and hired staff.

A facility with the ethos and philosophy of Christian Community Development as articulated by the

Christian Community Development Association.
