PHILOSOPHY OF MUSIC AT JACKSONVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (JPC)

We believe worship is directed to God (Isaiah 12:5, Psalm 95:6, John 4:23) and should be engaging, joyful and reverent (Psalm 66:1-2, Psalm 95:1-2, Psalm 100:1-2, Hebrews 12:28). Congregational singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs (Colossians 3:16) is a central act of worship and should lead people to praise the God of all grace (1 Peter 5:10). Our worship is multigenerational and welcomes all abilities (Deuteronomy 31:12, Psalm 145:4-7, Psalm 150:6, 1 Corinthians 12:22, 24-25).

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  1. To oversee the music ministry of JPC.
  2. To glorify God through the leading of Christ centered worship.
  3. To support the overall vision of JPC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan and lead music for all worship services, including special services.
  2. Lead weekly music rehearsals.
  3. Lead Sunday pre-service run-throughs.
  4. Create slides and graphics for Sunday worship services.
  5.  Utilize Planning Center to create services, schedule instrumentalists and singers.
  6. Recruit instrumentalists and singers from the congregation to serve in the music ministry.
  7. Lead occasional choirs (i.e. Easter, Christmas) and assist with the children’s Christmas program.
  8. Develop additional avenues of worship and musical expression such as a jazz vespers, concert series, hymn sings, caroling, etc.
  9. Be available to support the various ministries of JPC with music and worship.
  10. Develop musical and spiritual growth for worship team members through mentoring and instruction.
  11. Provide oversight to the Tech Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Mature, committed Christian with godly character.
  2. Willing to join JPC as a member.
  3. Good musical and vocal ability.
  4. Experience leading worship with a full worship team of instrumentalists and vocalists.
  5. Experience conducting rehearsals for worship teams, choirs, and instrumentalists.
  6. Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities
  7. A working knowledge of arranging and notating for instruments and singers is desirable but not required.

HOURS AND REMUNERATION:

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. Salary is based on experience.
