Director of Student Ministries: First Presbyterian Church

Job Description:

We're seeking a full-time Director of Student Ministries who is passionate about discipling middle and high school students, rooting them in the faith, and walking alongside families in the journey of raising up the next generation to cherish and commend the Lord Jesus Christ.

1. Teaching & Discipleship

• Sunday School: Lead and coordinate engaging, gospel-centered teaching for youth. Personally teach senior high and equip others to teach additional classes.
• Curriculum: Select theologically sound, age-appropriate curriculum for Sunday mornings and small groups. Ensure timely training and resources for all teachers and leaders.

1. Midweek Gatherings (Wednesday Nights)

• Create a welcoming and high-energy environment that builds community, promotes fun, and fosters spiritual growth.
• Lead large-group teaching and worship, with assistance from interns and volunteers where needed.

1. Small Groups

• Personally lead at least one discipleship group.
• Recruit, train, and support adult leaders to facilitate additional small groups.
• Provide curriculum and relational support for all group leaders.

1. Relational & Presence-Based Ministry

• Be a visible, encouraging presence in students' lives—attending school events, games, performances, and spending time where students are.
• Offer pastoral care and spiritual guidance to students one-on-one, particularly during times of crisis or struggle.
• Build relationships not only with students, but also with their families.

1. Events & Retreats

• Plan and lead monthly social events that encourage fellowship and fun (e.g., movie nights, gaga ball tournaments, ultimate frisbee).
• Organize annual summer camps and winter retreats for both junior and senior high students. Oversee all logistics, communication, and volunteer coordination.

1. Church-Wide Ministry & Teamwork

• Participate in pastoral visitation and counseling, particularly for families with youth.
• Collaborate with the senior pastor and staff team to support the overall mission and ministry of the church.
• Attend staff meetings and provide regular updates on student ministry.

• A mature and growing Christian, with a love for students and a heart for gospel-centered discipleship.
• Someone who can teach God's Word clearly and faithfully, connecting with youth in a way that is both theologically rich and personally engaging.
• A natural relational leader—approachable, encouraging, and fun—who draws students toward Christ.
• A self-starter with organizational gifts who can plan well and follow through.
• A team player who is eager to be a part of our church family and serve alongside the staff and elders.
• Ordination as a pastor is not indispensable, but we would welcome those to apply who are eligible or will be eligible for ordination in the PCA.
