Job Description:
PURPOSE: Lead and oversee the church's worship ministry in partnership with the Lead Pastor, demonstrating a pastoral heart that cares for and equips all who serve in worship. The ideal candidate will pair professional musical training with the ability to lead effectively in a multi-ethnic context and to build strong, unified teams. We are seeking someone who can guide a diverse congregation in worship, incorporate various musical styles, cultivate healthy relationships with the music teams, communicate clearly, and collaborate well with staff, volunteers, and the congregation.
QUALIFICATIONS A maturing Christian faith in adherence to ECO's tenets (NPC's denomination) with a special love of the music and worship of the church. Ability to demonstrate this faith as you work with musicians, staff, and the congregation Experience working with a church worship ministry for at least three years; specific experience in multi-ethnic music desired. Excellent musical skills: vocal and instrumental: piano, and possibly guitar. College-level music study or music degree desired. Must be able to coordinate a music ministry including traditional hymns, contemporary music, and multi-ethnic music representing the broad ethnic and generational diversity of our congregation A passion for equipping the next generation, coordinating with NextGen leadership to integrate children and youth into the music/worship life of the church
RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the Lead Pastor/Head of Staff to coordinate the music ministry as a vital and integral part of the overall worship experience Organize, implement and lead the various musical elements of the 10:45 am Sunday worship service Select hymns and songs which are theologically rich and aligned with sermon themes for the weekly worship in consultation with the pastor who has final oversight. CHANCEL CHOIR: Select music for and rehearse the Choir to sing one or more Sundays each month, September – June. PRAISE TEAM: Rehearse the Praise Team for each Sunday worship service. Coordinate weekly with Tech team for audio and visual needs Coordinate weekly with office staff to meet bulletin and newsletter deadlines Work with other musicians to schedule Prelude, Offertory selections and communion music Assist in writing liturgy for our Sunday morning worship Attend bi- weekly staff meetings in person to coordinate worship plans and church events Attend Worship Team meetings, usually online, approximately 6 times/year Assist Worship Team in preparing the Music Budget each fall Explore developing other music ensembles: e.g. a Children's Choir or Hand Bell Choir Encourage and mentor instrumentalists (youth and adults) to help prepare them to join as musicians in worship
WORSHIP/MUSIC VISION AND GOALS Intercultural Identity Collaborates with the Lead Pastor/Head of Staff to guide the music ministry to be a vital tool for demonstrating and sharing the gospel as we embrace our multi-ethnic identity. Creative Growth Recruit music leaders and members for all musical groups who reflect the broad diversity of our church and of Germantown. Global Music Coordinates with the Pastors to aim for song selection which will help make visible our wonderful variety of national backgrounds as we work together toward greater unity in the gospel. Congregational Engagement Develop effective ways to increase active participation in congregational singing. Community Gospel Outreach* Seek opportunities to use music as a bridge to share the Gospel within the Germantown community, expanding our reach beyond the church walls.
SUPERVISION The Director of Worship Music works under the supervision of the Lead Pastor/Head of Staff in coordination with the Worship Team of Session.

Designation of Exempt or Non-exempt: Non-exempt This is a part-time position, approximately 25 hours per week. You will be eligible for Personal Time Off (PTO) based on your regularly scheduled hours per week according to the Neelsville PTO policy. You will be eligible to voluntarily participate in NPC's 403 (b) Retirement Savings Plan.
