Director of Worship

STORYLINE CHURCH Arvada, CO Full-time

Job Overview

The Director of Worship provides spiritual, theological, and creative leadership for Storyline Worship. This role exists to help our church proclaim and respond to the gospel through Scripture-shaped worship that leads people to know Jesus and love all people. In addition, this role will influence outside the walls of Storyline Church through the Residency program, our Storyline Colorado family of churches, and other culture-shaping leadership opportunities.

Our worship culture at Storyline Church will include:• A congregation that sings with conviction.• A residency that forms the next generation of worship leaders.• A family of churches proclaiming the one sound of the gospel together.• A songbook being written for the church and for the children who will inherit it.

Job Description

Areas of Leadership:The Sunday Gathering
  • The Sunday Gathering is theologically serious, aesthetically excellent, and congregationally formed. We take our gatherings very seriously because they are our greatest opportunity to display, sing, preach, and pray the good news of the gospel. When we gather, we loudly rehearse the good news of the gospel, not as a performance, but as a family of faith that desires to encourage one another in the good news.
    • We sing songs rooted in Scripture and formed by the arc of the gospel. God is great; we are sinners; Jesus saves us; Jesus sends us.
    • Our liturgy is thoughtful but unnoticed. It is gentle in the way it shapes and forms us. We intentionally form every aspect of that gathering to make disciples.
  • The Director of Worship will work closely with the Lead Pastor to plan and execute Sunday Gatherings that point the gathered church to Jesus. This foundation will establish the culture for formative worship that flourishes throughout our church in other ministry settings such as The Salt Company, Storyline Kids, Storyline Students, and other discipleship spaces.
The Next Generation of Worship Leaders
  • In addition to recruiting, equipping, and shepherding our Storyline Church worship volunteers, the Director of Worship will actively help shape the next generation of worship ministers and send them to serve the church. Our new residency program will make Storyline one of the premier churches for developing the next generation of leaders. We will be a destination for emerging leaders to develop their gifts and be sent out to proclaim the gospel.
  • The Director of Worship will be the primary architect and shepherd of the worship leadership branch of this residency, developing 3-5 worship residents per year who are embedded in the life of Storyline Staff. These residents will complete up to 39 hours of their MDiv curriculum in the life of the church and will graduate knowing how to lead a congregation liturgically through Scripture, prayer, song, and the gospel. The Storyline Residency will be a pipeline that sends theologically formed, pastorally wise, musically gifted leaders into our church plants and into the broader evangelical church. Our residents are not just extra staff members who help us accomplish tasks; they are future ministers that we have the privilege of shaping and sending.
Storyline Family of Churches
  • Storyline is not trying to build the biggest church, but we do want to plant as many churches as possible across Colorado, the West, and the Nations. We want each of those churches to have a similar sound and to share in the same theological vision for the Sunday Gathering.
  • The Director of Worship at Storyline will carry an informal but vital role in this movement, providing mentorship, encouragement, and resources that strengthen worship leaders and foster relational cooperation across our family of churches. Since these churches are currently autonomous, this partnership is informal but invited. Imagine what 40 churches with the same worship DNA could do together.
Songs for the Church
  • Storyline will contribute to writing gospel-centered music for the church. We will primarily write for our church family and pray that the Lord will use it to bless the broader church. These songs will carry our stories, our struggles, and they will gird Storyline in the good news of the gospel.
  • These songs shouldn't just be for Storyline, but the next generation of Storyline Kids. We want to develop a vision for writing songs as a means of catechizing the next generation.
The best of what Storyline Worship will be is still ahead of us — songs not yet written, leaders not yet formed, churches not yet planted, congregations not yet singing.
