Director of Youth and Children's Ministries

Position Summary:

New Hope Baptist Church is a growing Southern Baptist Church in Laurinburg North Carolina. Our motto is ‘A place of hope for all people.' Our current average attendance is 200-250 per week. We are seeking an individual to lead our Youth and children's ministries. This person should be called by God, have a passion for reaching the lost, especially those of the next generation and agree with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000). Our children's ministry currently serves grades K-6 and the youth ministry serves grades 7-12.

General Responsibilities:

· Plan, organize and oversee all children's and youth programs.

· Develop a vision and plan to prepare students to enter the world with a firm Biblical worldview. Starting from the Kindergarten age through high school.

· Develop programing, curriculum and activities appropriate for each age group.

· Recruit, train, and encourage a strong volunteer team for teaching, events and mentoring.

· Participate in Sunday School in both Children and youth classes.

· Maintain a culture of safety and accountability (including background checks, child protection policies, etc.)

· Model a genuine and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

· Communicate with parents, families, volunteer leaders and church leadership and members about activities and opportunities for involvement.

· Encourage family participation in church life and help to equip parents to disciple their children at home.

· Engage with local schools and community events to build bridges between the church and community.

· Plan and manage budgets responsibly.

· Maintain organized schedules, records and other materials.

· Other responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

Youth ministry specific responsibilities:

· The director would be expected to be the in-person leader of youth group meetings on Sunday Nights and Wednesday nights weekly.

· Responsible for either developing or choosing all lessons and Bible studies for the youth group.

· Plan and organize regular outings. Outings will be a mix of local off-site gatherings, trips out of town to a conference, a weekend retreat or longer trips like summer camp.

· Develop and maintain small groups within the youth group. Small groups can be a part of either Sunday or Wednesday night gatherings.

· Plan mission trips and opportunities for the youth group.

· Plan and execute fundraising endeavors when needed.

· Plan and lead special Sunday morning services throughout the year such as the graduation service, etc.

· Recruit and train volunteer leaders to assist the director in all areas of the youth ministry.

· Support the New Hope Youth Group Mission Statement (see attached).

Children's Ministry specific responsibilities:

· The director will not be required to be the in-person leader of Children's Ministry gatherings (Sunday morning Children's church, Wednesday night programing). The director should have the ability to teach and lead children's lessons when needed.

· The director will oversee the current children's ministry leaders, and recruit and train new volunteer leaders when needed.

· Responsible for selecting or approving all curriculum and materials used in the children's ministry.

· Plan and organize special events for the children and community outreach throughout the year. Such as an Easter party and back to school bash.

· Plan and execute VBS including volunteer recruitment and training.

· Plan and lead outings for children's groups.

Qualifications:

· A professing faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

· Alignment with The Baptist Faith and Mission (2000).

· Willingness to become a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

· Ministry Degree preferred, not required.

· A solid understanding of current trends and culture.

· Relational, outgoing and able to connect across generations.

· Strong organizational and communication skills.

· Experience in church ministry preferred.

· Ability to teach in engaging, fun ways.
