Who We Are:
We are an evangelical, nondenominational church that is congregationally ruled, deacon served, and elder led. We provide care and oversight to approximately 600 members, and on Sundays we regularly have around 1,000 people in attendance. We gather for two identical Sunday morning services where we read, sing, preach, and pray the Word together.
Purpose and Practice of the Role
The Discipleship Pastor reports to the Lead Pastor and works alongside the elder plurality to strengthen the church's culture of disciple-making. This role facilitates the spiritual formation of church members and leaders through systems, curricula, and environments that promote growth in the gospel. This pastor will inherit and improve an established discipleship system serving ~1,000 weekly attendees.
Job Description
Small Group Responsibilities
- Goal: strengthen the church's culture of biblical care and disciple-making • Oversee the development, multiplication, and care of ~35 Small Groups • Equip each lay elder to effectively coach and shepherd 4–5 SGs • Resource groups/leaders for healthy group dynamics & spiritual formation
Education & Development Responsibilities
- Goal: equip members to grow practically and theologically
- Maintain and visioneer spiritual formation for members thru classes • Adult discipleship (studies, mentoring, etc) • Develop leaders by leading training cohorts for elders, deacons, & residents • Recruit and oversee 5–6 interns for the annual 10-week summer internship • Identify and mentor emerging leaders within the congregation
General Responsibilities
- Preach on Sunday mornings as directed by the Lead Pastor
- Assist in pastoral care, counseling, and shepherding of church members • Assist with pastoral duties on Sunday mornings (assimilation, services, etc.)
