Discipleship Pastor

Job Overview

The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for leadership, development, and oversight of discipleship at Village Church. This person will ensure the discipleship ministry is aligned with the vision, mission, values, and strategies of Village Church.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provide strategic leadership for discipleship initiatives so the church's mission will advance through deepened faith and positive influence in the community.
• Oversee children and student ministries to maintain alignment in discipleship from child through adult.
• Oversee and multiply small groups that grow in God's word and go on God's mission together. Provide encouragement and training to small group leader and leadership teams.
• Coordinate equipping initiatives to help biblically navigate our world.
• Work alongside volunteer leadership teams to implement strategic men-only or women-only ministry events.
• Develop a pathway from a first-time visitor to an active church member, including membership classes, baptism, classes, and foundational spiritual growth classes.
• Preach as part of a preaching team as scheduled by the Lead Pastor.
• Participate in pastoral shepherding efforts to care for Village Church (counseling, visiting, weddings, funerals, etc.).
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

• Evidence of a mature relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for discipleship.
• Affirm and champion the Village Church Statement of Faith, Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategy.
• Heart for ministry, visible commitment to advance the gospel, a sense of God's call to pastoral ministry.
• Strategic mindset toward structure and processes.
• Spirit of humility and servant leadership; demonstrates godly wisdom.
• Active mentor relationship; for accountability and encouragement.
• Experienced leader with ability to give leadership, direction, and vision to develop necessary ministries and leadership teams.
• Exercise discretion and good judgment in personal contacts and communication (e.g. social media).
• Competent administrative and organizational skills; good problem and conflict resolution skills.
• Academic degree appropriate to the duties outlined; M. Div. preferred.
• At least 7-10 years church experience with small group and discipleship experience included.
