Job Overview
WHO WE ARE
Community Bible Fellowship Church (CBFC) is an evangelical, Bible-believing, Gospel-centered church in Red Hill, Pa. It is a congregation of the Bible Fellowship Church (bfc.org), a small Reformed, evangelical denomination with roots in this region and a passion for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Established in 1991, CBFC is a congregation that aims to keep growing. We currently have a Sunday morning congregation of about 220. We plan, Lord willing, to keep up the growth momentum – there are many more souls to reach in our suburban, semi-rural area about an hour north of Philadelphia.
We have affinities with the writings of present day leaders like John Piper, Kevin DeYoung, D.A. Carson and Wayne Grudem; with past leaders like J.I. Packer, Tim Keller, R.C. Sproul, Jonathan Edwards and C.S. Lewis; and with organizations like The Gospel Coalition, the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals and Desiring God.
WHAT WE SEEK
CBFC seeks an Executive Pastor, a man of gospel ministry experience who can help steer our growing church in the years ahead. The responsibilities would be a combination of administrative work and shepherding duties, plus occasional preaching and teaching opportunities.
>> Administration: We see the Executive Pastor overseeing CBFC's array of ministries; program planning; guiding the church staff; coordinating events; scheduling and communications; liaison with the BFC denomination.
>> Shepherding: We see the Executive Pastor involved, along with the Board of Elders and the Teaching Pastor, in the shepherding of individuals and families. This may involve individual counseling, teaching ministries, oversight of small groups, and more.
CBFC is a church on a mission. We aim to proclaim the Gospel (Matt. 28:18-20), preserve the truth (2 Tim. 1:13-14), love each other (Rom. 12:10), and bring glory to God (1 Cor. 10:31). We seek an Executive Pastor who can guide us in various aspects of ministry.
The Bible Fellowship Church has procedures and policies that guide the pastoral search process. The Faith and Order (bfc.org > About Us > Faith and Order > Principles of Order) spells out qualifications for Elders and Ministers in Article 204. This article stresses an elder's spiritual qualifications (1 Tim. 3, Titus 1, 1 Peter 5) and the expectations for what the BFC terms "minister," i.e., a credentialed man who is a leader among the elders. A candidate for minister at CBFC, accordingly, must work with the BFC's credentialing committees and affirm the denomination's Articles of Faith (also available under About Us at bfc.org).
Job Description
REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER DUTIES
We seek a man who is absorbed with the Gospel and can communicate it effectively, a shepherd who can lead believers to greater levels of maturity, who is skilled in handling God's Word, who loves the doctrines of sovereign grace, and who is passionate about pursuing personal holiness and leading others to find Jesus.
We seek a man who has substantial experience in pastoral ministry, with a Master's degree in ministry or greater, and who can speak and write clearly.
The Executive Pastor would be an elder and work in tandem with the Teaching Pastor. We envision the Teaching Pastor being in the pulpit about three Sundays per month, which would allow for preaching opportunities for elders, including the Executive Pastor. We also envision the Executive Pastor having a significant iron-sharpens-iron relationship with the Teaching Pastor; they would be a team.
There may also be other pastoral duties for the Executive Pastor, including but not limited to: casting a vision for the church; discipling and counseling individuals; and various aspects of congregational care such as visitation of the sick and follow-up with visitors.
