Executive Pastor – Discipleship

Role Overview:

The Executive Pastor serves as the primary leader for church discipleship ministries and operations strategy, ensuring the effective implementation of the church's mission: Cultivating Joy in Jesus. The role provides oversight and alignment for all discipleship ministries, including next generation (kids, youth, and college), community group life, men's and women's ministry, assimilation, and other spiritual formation initiatives. The Executive Pastor – Discipleship works in close partnership with the Lead Pastor and eldership to translate vision into action by developing leaders and ministry teams, and by clarifying and building systems, structures, and strategies that strengthen discipleship, foster belonging, and support sustainable ministry growth. The position also provides leadership for the administrative and operational functions of the church—including facilities, finance, and general administration—in collaboration with deacons, ministry leaders, and staff to ensure the church's ministries are well-supported, resourced, and aligned with its mission and strategic objectives.

The Executive Pastor reports to the Lead Pastor and serves as a key member of the church's eldership, providing both strategic and operational leadership to ensure the ministries, staff, and systems of the church function in unified pursuit of gospel-centered growth and health.

What You'll Do:

This position requires, as a condition of employment, ongoing affirmation of the Church Statement of Faith as outlined in the Elder Affirmation of Faith and Church Covenant and Bylaws. The Executive Pastor's core responsibilities are then focused to:

  • Set the vision and strategy discipleship ministries across the church including next generation ministries (kids, youth, college), community group life, women's ministry, men's ministry, assimilation, and other discipleship initiatives to align with the church's mission
  • Provide direction, leadership and care for community group leaders to ensure discipleship within community groups aligns with the church's mission and strategic objectives in collaboration with the Lead Pastor
  • Develop, in collaboration with Ministry Leaders, a holistic strategy for youth and college ministry and outreach that is aligned with the church's mission and strategic objectives
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Director of Kids, a holistic strategy for kids ministry that is aligned with the church's mission and strategic objectives
  • Support, in collaboration with the relevant leaders and church deacons, men's and women's ministry that fosters community and deepens discipleship in alignment with the church's mission and strategic objectives
  • Develop and implement plans and tactics to create belonging and meaningful engagement including a holistic approach for greeting and connecting with church guests, connecting church guests to church resources and discipleship programs, overseeing Connect Class, and facilitating the church membership process
  • Provide direction, leadership and care for the welcome team on Sunday mornings and works to identify and develop a pipeline of ministry leaders to support the growth of the church through engagement with guests
  • Coordinate, in consultation with the Lead Pastor, a holistic strategy for ministry engagement by church members to ensure the ministries of the church are supported with volunteers through collaboration with the staff and ministry leaders
  • Support the eldership in coordinating care for church members including connecting members to resources and ministries through community group leadership
  • Provide oversight and support for church facility functions in collaboration with church deacons, ministry leaders, and the elders of the church
  • Provide oversight and support for administrative church functions in collaboration with the Deacon of Finance and other church leaders including, but not limited to: Budget and finance, church administration, and facility administration.
  • Develop, in collaboration with the elder team a strategy for assimilation that is consistently executed to facilitate healthy church growth and meaningful belonging
  • Assist in the preaching and teaching ministry of the church as assigned by the Lead Pastor

Role Qualifications

  • Meets the biblical qualifications for eldership and affirms the elder affirmation of faith and
    • Master of Divinity (or equivalent) and at least seven (7) years experience in pastoral ministry or
    • An Advanced Degree (Th.M, D.Min, Ph.D, Ed.D) and at least five (5) years experience in pastoral ministry
  • Ability to lead, engage, and motivate vocational and volunteer ministry leaders
  • Project management and change management skills
  • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead, support and resource a holistic discipleship ministry
  • An ability to build and maintain strong relationships among pastors, staff, and volunteers through collaboration
  • Excellent people leadership skills
  • A strong ability to mentor and coach leaders
