Job Overview

Executive Pastor of Ministry

Title: Executive Pastor of Ministry

Purpose: Provides tactical and strategic oversight of the ministry staff and ministry programs of the church

Payroll Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt

Reports to:

  • The Elder Board as an elder and member of the Board
  • The Lead Pastor as a member of the Executive Pastor Team for purposes of vision, direction, and collaborative leadership

Supervises: All ministry pastors and directors

General Qualifications:

  • Seminary degree (Master of Divinity, or equivalent)
  • Strong team leader and team coordinator
  • Experience serving with a congregation of 500+
  • Must be able to and will continue to endorse (as long as he is in service at Christ Community Church) the constitution and doctrinal statement of Christ Community Church and follow the leadership of the elders
  • An ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of successful ministry in a larger church setting
  • Must be able to work effectively in collaboration with a Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor Team while also serving as a full member of an Elder Board
  • Must demonstrate excellent administrative abilities
  • Exceptional skills in mentoring, discipling, coaching, and leadership development

Spiritual Qualifications:

  • Committed Christian (bears spiritual fruit, balances life, demonstrates emotional health and stability)
  • Lives consistently within the biblical standards of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
  • Must meet the qualifications of an elder
  • Believes God has gifted and called him to the pastorate and has the support of his family in this ministry

Supervisory expectations:

  • To model a passionate Christ-centered life
  • To shepherd and provide direction to the ministry staff and others involved in ministry at Christ Community Church
  • To serve effectively on the Executive Pastor Team directed by the Lead Pastor
  • To serve well as an elder at Christ Community Church
  • To encourage all CCC members in their spiritual journey

Job Description

Primary responsibilities:

  • Ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of ministry staff while carrying out the vision and direction of the Elder Board
  • Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor Team for high level collaboration, vision, and tone setting
  • Meet regularly with each of the ministry staff for coaching, support, review, and development
  • Lead regular staff meetings and weekly staff chapels
  • Plan and facilitate staff retreats and professional development opportunities
  • Advise the Elders of any problems, successes, and the general status of all CCC ministries
  • Represent CCC in accordance with the Executive Pastor of Ministry position as it relates to the general community and sister churches
  • Adhere to, and be able to teach, the church doctrinal statement
  • Adhere to the policies and guidelines in the CCC Employee Handbook
  • Formulate and advocate for staff ministry budgets and compensation levels
  • Lead the staff in operating within the approved annual budget
  • Guides pastor/director staffing decisions (hiring or dismissal), subject to Elder approval.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Develop, organize, and implement a robust team of male and female Deacons at CCC who hold key volunteer, servant-leader positions in various areas of the church
  • Organize a Deacon Fund Team to steward and disperse benevolence funds to needy individuals in the church and community
  • Oversee the Equipping Class ministry of the church (or assign a qualified staff member to develop this area)
  • Oversee the Community Groups ministry of the church (or assign a qualified staff member to develop this area)
  • Oversee the Support Group ministries of the church (i.e. Divorce Care, Grief Share, Stephen Ministry, etc.) (or assign a qualified staff member to develop this area)
  • Share in the pastoral care ministry on a rotating basis with other members of the pastoral staff (i.e. hospital visits, walk-in crisis support, financial requests, etc.)
  • Assist with weddings, funerals, etc. when called upon to do so
  • Participate in a Community Group
  • Teach and invest more fully in a sub-group of the church as opportunity affords (i.e. Young Family Discipleship Class, an equipping class, etc.)
  • Provide direct pastoral counseling to CCC members as needs arise

Other duties and tasks as directed by the Elder Board
