Job Overview
The Family Pastor position will lead Hope Church's ministry to Hope Kids and Upper Room (5th–12th grade) by building healthy volunteer teams, creating safe and welcoming environments, and forming kids and students as apprentices of Jesus. This role is both pastoral and operational—hands-on on Sundays and Tuesday nights, organized during the week, and deeply relational with volunteers, parents, and students.
Job Description
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
A) Volunteer Support, Recruiting, Training, & Scheduling (Kids + Youth)
- Build relationships with volunteers; foster a culture of encouragement, clarity, and ownership
- Recruit, onboard, and train new volunteers for both kids and youth environments
- Schedule volunteers in Planning Center, ensuring consistent staffing and clear communication
- Ensure all volunteers meet Hope Church's safety requirements (background checks/training where applicable)
- Maintain appropriate adult-to-child/student ratios and two-unrelated-adults practices wherever feasible
B) Hope Kids (Birth–5th Grade) Curriculum & Sunday Readiness
- Prepare and print weekly lessons using the curriculum provided (download videos, print guides, create slides as needed)
- Ensure classrooms are stocked and set up with necessary supplies and materials
- Purchase/order snacks and materials using the Hope Church card (within budget and procedures)
- Ensure classroom spaces are clean, safe, and ready before Sunday services
C) Upper Room (5th–12th Grade) Apprenticeship & Weekly Rhythm
- Lead weekly youth gathering(s): teaching, discussion, prayer, community, and mission
- Continue to build an Upper Room volunteer team (small group leaders, event help, mentors) and provide ongoing support
- Provide relational discipleship and pastoral care to students (with healthy boundaries and escalation to Formation Pastor/Lead Pastor/Elders when needed)
- Plan a sustainable calendar of Upper Room (hangouts, service nights, retreats, etc.) that supports discipleship and belonging
- Partner with parents/guardians to support discipleship in the home through clear, regular communication
- Regularly attend students' extracurricular activities (games, performances, etc.)
- Explore a potential partnership with Young Life, who meets at Hope Church
D) Sunday Oversight & Environment Health (Kids + Youth Touchpoints)
- Oversee kids ministry readiness and volunteer support on Sunday mornings
- Support check-in/pick-up flow and ensure safety policies are consistently followed
- Be present with students and families on Sundays, helping integrate Upper Room Youth into the broader life of the church
- Troubleshoot issues calmly and quickly so volunteers and families feel seen and cared for
E) Communication & Coordination
- Communicate regularly with Formation Pastor and staff about scheduling, needs, supplies, and upcoming Sundays/events
- Keep parents informed (kids + youth) through consistent, clear communication
- Maintain simple systems for Upper Room planning (calendar, volunteer schedules, supply needs, event details)

Apprenticeship is how we practice the way of Jesus at Hope Church, which involves three things: being with Him, becoming like Him, and doing what He would do if He were us. Therefore, the staff will model this in the following ways:
BEING
- Committed to spending time regularly abiding in Christ and growing in apprenticeship to Jesus
- Will receive 3 paid Sundays off a year o 2 Sundays for the express purpose of personal worship/rest o 1 Sunday for the express purpose of personal development
BECOMING
- Maintaining a healthy relationship with spouse and children (if applicable)
- Develop personal evangelism and discipleship opportunities within and outside the church.
DOING
- Work with the Formation Pastor to set vision-aligning goals for various areas of oversight
- Adhere to and encompass the qualities and characteristics required of Hope Church staff
- Complete recurring tasks in a timely, professional manner
