Job Description:
The Male Junior-Staff Counselor/Pastoral Internship is a full-time paid summer internship ($3000 + room and board). Dates: May 26 – Aug 25 (with 1-2 weeks of time off)
Overview: The Junior Staff Counselor oversees 4-8 young men (high school age) who are participating in the Boardwalk Chapel Junior-Staff program (which runs from late June to late August). While the junior staff take part in various aspects of the Boardwalk Chapel ministry and receive training from our other leaders, the Junior Staff Counselor is responsible for their personal discipleship. The intern also doubles as a Pastoral Internship with opportunity for other pastoral ministry experiences according to gifts and desires. The Junior Staff Counselor should be someone who has a love for and experience in working with teens, ideally with a background in counseling (e.g. a seminarian who is an MDiv or counseling student)
Primary Internship Responsibilities and Experiences:
- Lives with male junior staff (high school)
- Leads daily discipleship time with the male junior staff
- Promotes and protects their spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being
- Counsels junior staff individually as needed
- Oversees junior staff chores and other service activities
- Plans weekly fun & fellowship activity for the jr. staff
- Leads brief staff dinner devotion once a week
- Participates in the regular evening Boardwalk Chapel evangelism ministry
Additional Pastoral Responsibilities and Opportunities available (according to gifting and interest):
- Preaches in local churches on Lord's Days (2 – 6 Sundays, depending on interest and availability)
- Assists in the leading Lord's Day Evening Worship (weekly)
- Available for informal counseling as needed among regular staff men (college age and up)
- Receives training in evangelism and participates in evangelistic ministry as desired or able
