About Us

Redemption City Church (RCC) is a Bible-believing, gospel-centered church in the Fairmount/Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia. We are a family of ordinary people who do ordinary things together with Gospel intentionality. We are affiliated with both the Southern Baptist Convention and the Soma Network Family of Churches. Redemption City Church has approximately 100 members and has experienced steady congregational growth since it was planted over nine years ago. RCC has a missional heartbeat for the local neighborhood, college campuses, and the city of Philadelphia.

Position Summary The Lead Pastor serves as the church's primary elder and provides spiritual leadership through the faithful preaching, teaching, and application of God's Word. This role is responsible for shepherding the congregation, equipping and developing leaders, and guiding the overall spiritual and organizational health of the church.

Serving in a full-time capacity, the Lead Pastor works collaboratively with other RCC staff including the College Ministry Pastor and partners closely with a dedicated team of elders, deacons, ministry leaders, and volunteers to advance the mission of the church.

The Lead Pastor is expected to cultivate a Christ-centered, Spirit-led community and culture that is hospitable to the work of the Holy Spirit and reflective of God's Kingdom, with a desire to extend the church's Gospel witness and impact throughout Philadelphia and beyond.

Responsibilities

Spiritual/Congregational Care Lead by example in Christ-like character, the fruit of the Spirit, humility, integrity, and the spiritual disciplines Provide pastoral care to members through discipleship, prayer, teaching, counseling, and crisis visitation Seek the Lord's direction to discern, articulate, and communicate vision for the church's future

Administrative Oversight Provide executive oversight of the church's ministries, operations, and staff Lead and/or delegate leadership of strategic planning, staff and elder meetings, and ministry evaluation processes Develop and steward the church budget faithfully and transparently by working alongside elders, deacons, and staff Work closely with the elders to discern priorities, evaluate ministry health, and make major organizational decisions Provide oversight for the deacon team who support the day-to-day needs of the church and presents relevant updates and needs to the eldership team

Theological Leadership Plan and prepare expositional and gospel-centered sermons to equip the church Serve as the primary preacher and teacher, faithfully proclaiming God's Word with clarity and conviction Maintain theological formation across all ministries of RCC to ensure they align with the teachings of the Scripture Equip and develop the staff, elder team, deacons, and other ministry leaders, fostering a culture of discipleship, collaboration, and accountability Ensure that the organizational structures, policies, and practices support the theological and missional vision (local and global) of the church

Qualifications

Spiritual: Proven ability to preach and teach God's Word in a variety of settings (i.e. Sunday morning worship, small group bible study, etc.) Alignment with the church's doctrinal statement and core values A deep love for God's Word and a commitment to gospel-centered and Christ-centered ministry A robust personal prayer life and an ability to teach others to pray Evident, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, marked by maturity, humility, and holiness Meet the biblical qualifications of an elder in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1

Training: Theological training required; formal theological education, such as a seminary degree, preferred Ministry experience required; prior experience as a pastor is preferred Strong interpersonal, pastoral, and communication skills RCC affirms that while both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of elder is limited to men, as described in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. This role falls within the office of elder.

Leadership: Demonstrates organizational and administrative competency, including the ability to manage a master budget Under the ultimate Lordship of Jesus, the Lead Pastor will be accountable to the members of Redemption City Church for faithfulness to Scripture and alignment with the church's mission and values
