Lead Pastor
Job Overview
Definition The Lead Pastor is responsible for shepherding the vision, teaching, and spiritual growth of the Solano Community Church congregation to fulfill its mission. The Lead Pastor mobilizes the church for worship, discipleship, service, and evangelism through spirit-led prayer, biblical instruction, and servant leadership. This is a full-time position, and the pastor will spend 40-50 hours each week on ministry responsibilities. Both the pastor and congregation shall affirm God's calling to this ministry.
Job Description
Qualifications 1. Demonstrate the qualities of a biblical overseer (see 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5:1-3). Give testimony and life witness of spiritual gifts relevant to biblical teaching, shepherding, and leading. 2. Have at least 5-10 years of experience as an Associate Pastor or Lead Pastor. 3. Have an appropriate and adequate education in an area of study relevant to the ministry responsibilities. Preference for at least a Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from an accredited seminary/Bible College. Solano Community Church is part of the Evangelical Free Church of America, and the pastor is expected to begin the credentialing process with the EFCA within the first three years of employment. 4. Have significant experience making disciples and leading others to do so. 5. Have a sound knowledge of Scripture and an ability to effectively apply and teach Scriptural principles in ministry and life. 6. Be a stable, joyful, mature, and growing Christian with an exemplary personal, marital, and family life. 7. Be committed to leading and developing a team approach across all areas of ministry. 8. Have good communication and organizational skills. 9. Be in agreement with Solano Community Church's theological convictions, as described in the EFCA statement of faith, EFCA distinctives, and EFCA resolution on Biblical Sexuality & Covenant of Marriage. 10. Must be a US citizen, permanent resident, or be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities 1. Model Christ-likeness a. Prioritize shepherding his family. b. Along with spouse (if married), become an active member of Solano Community Church and live a balanced life of worship, discipleship, evangelism, and serving.
2. Vision a. Contribute to, and help to refine, the ongoing vision of Solano Community Church b. Ensure that all ministries and initiatives further the vision and mission of the church and align with the values of the church. c. Develop long and short-term strategic and operational plans to be implemented as a team.
3. Teaching a. Steward, alongside Elders, the preaching ministry of the church by determining the sermon series, developing the Preaching Team, preaching a minimum of 44 times a year, and being present for a minimum of 47 services per year. b. Guide, encourage, and mentor other teachers when not preaching. c. Oversee all teaching ministries of the church and make sure they align with scripture. 4. Ministry Oversight a. Shepherd, with staff and Council, the new member process, including conducting the membership class and a member check-in process. b. Oversee, with staff, the ordinances of baptism and communion c. Oversee the process of recruiting, training, and supervising staff and, ultimately, lay volunteers to serve in their areas of giftedness and calling. d. Partner with the Elders in the recruiting and vetting of Deacons and their equipping. e. Serve on the Elder Team. Serve on, and report to, the Church Council. f. Oversee, and/or contribute to the design of the organizational structure of the church and its ministries g. Lead and ensure the wise pastoral care of the congregation at all life stages, including child dedications, baptisms, marriages, hospital visits, and funerals.
Reporting Structure The Lead Pastor works with the Elders and reports to, is supervised by, and receives annual evaluation from the Church Council. The Lead Pastor will supervise a staff team of two full-time and three part-time employees and oversee volunteer ministry leaders.
