Position Overview – Lead Pastor ( or Interim starting July 1, 2026 )
We are seeking a godly man called to serve as the primary teaching elder in a full-time, vocationally supported role. He will devote himself to prayer and the ministry of the Word, working together with a plurality of elders to shepherd the flock of God.
He is called to preach and teach the whole counsel of God, rightly dividing the Word of truth, and systematically expounding the Scriptures to equip the saints for the work of ministry and to see them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Together with the other elders, the pastor promotes sound doctrine within the church, spiritual health and growth among its members, and intentional engagement in mission to a lost world.
Primary Responsibilities
Preaching and Teaching
- Prepare and deliver two expository sermons each Lord’s Day (generally verse-by-verse, book-by-book).
- Share teaching responsibilities with fellow elders and emerging leaders.
- Oversee all public teaching ministries, including Sunday School and midweek Bible studies, ensuring faithfulness to the 1689 Confession and ultimately to the Scriptures.
Shepherding and Pastoral Care
- Provide biblical counseling and spiritual care.
- Visit the sick and shut-ins.
- Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and the Lord’s Supper.
- Promote the spiritual, emotional, and relational health of the congregation.
Leadership and Discipleship
- Collaborate with the elders in setting vision and providing spiritual leadership.
- Make disciples, equip lay leaders, and train future elders.
- Oversee membership processes, including biblical church discipline.
- Lead semi-monthly elders’ meetings.
Outreach and Evangelism
- Model and lead the church in personal and corporate evangelism.
- Actively promote local outreach and global missions in keeping with our commitment to advance Christ’s kingdom in obedience to the Great Commission.
Administration
- Participate in planning the church calendar (including the annual missions conference, church anniversary, and special services), while most administrative work is handled by another elder.
Qualifications
Spiritual and Character
- A born-again believer in Jesus Christ with a clear, biblical calling to pastoral ministry.
- Meets the biblical qualifications for elder in 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–4.
- Marked by humility, prayerfulness, perseverance, and the fruit of the Spirit.
Theological
- Submission to the Scriptures as the sole, infallible, and final authority over all of life (Sola Scriptura)
- Wholehearted commitment to Reformed theology and substantial agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith.
- Strong convictions regarding Baptist distinctives: believer’s baptism by immersion, regenerate church membership, and elder-led congregational polity.
Experience and Gifts
- Demonstrated giftedness and experience in expository preaching and pastoral ministry.
- Seminary training preferred; at minimum, a bachelor’s degree with significant theological preparation.
- Proven ability to shepherd, disciple, and work collaboratively with elders and the congregation.
Personal Conduct
The pastor must exemplify godly character, maintain a vibrant personal walk with Christ, and (if married) lead his household faithfully as a devoted husband and father.
The pastor will be a member of the church and serve as an elder, participating fully in the life of the congregation and setting an example of commitment and godliness.
Background check and references are required.
Compensation and Benefits
We take seriously our responsibility to support those who give themselves fully to the ministry of the Word. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and cost of living in the Burlington area.
The compensation package is generous, including salary, health savings account, retirement contributions, personal library allowance, conference trips and paid vacation time. Details will be negotiated with the elders and confirmed by the congregation. The compensation package is reviewed annually in conjunction with the church’s fiscal year budgeting process.
