Middle School Minister

Job Overview

The Middle School Minister will provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of ministry for 6th-8th grades and serve as the point of contact and connection for all students, parents, volunteers, and families within that span of care. He or she will partner with the High School Minister to lead a ministry for the students at DOCC that provides shared large group gatherings and events as well as community groups and Bible skills and teaching geared toward the spiritual formation stages of 6th-8th grade students.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Cast vision for community, maturity, and fellowship within the middle school ministry community groups in cooperation with the larger discipleship models of DOCC.
  • Create worship services that reach and engage middle school students. Clearly and effectively present the Gospel with consideration for a middle school student's spiritual needs and seasons.
  • Plan a yearly calendar that intentionally reflect the core values of the church: maturity, community, and charity. Effectively balance events and activities equally between the three values.
  • Intentionally invest in relationship building in appropriate and meaningful ways outside the church with middle school students, parents, and volunteer leaders to foster growing relationships for the purpose of discipleship. Train and equip your leaders to do the same.
  • Ensure proper supervision and oversight for the purpose of student safety and accountability for behavior and decorum. This includes adult-to-student ratios, honoring child safety policies, and training all volunteers on appropriate safety protocols and disciplinary measures for noncompliant students.
  • Develop a ministry environment for middle schoolers that is attractive to lost students, engaging for churched students, trusted by parents, and provides opportunities for all students to engage with the Gospel and with God's people.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

Education and Experience: Master of Divinity or equivalent preferred; bachelor degree with ministry experience and training required.

Knowledge and Skills: Must have an awareness of adolescent development, specifically its relationship to discipleship needs and spiritual formation. Should also be desiring and willing of additional growth and training in those areas of expertise.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:

  • None, but ongoing training and networking is strongly encouraged

Spiritual Requirements:

  • Must be a growing and maturing follower of Jesus Christ who can articulate a call to ministry and the impact the truth of the Gospel has had on his or her life
  • Must be a person of spiritual discipline, especially prayer and study. The fruit of the Spirit should be increasingly evident in his or her life.
  • The Middle School Minister must live a life above reproach in his or her public, private, and virtual life (including social media).

Physical Requirements:

  • The Middle School Minister should be a person who is physically active and capable of leading and participating in youth events, outings, competitions, and camps.
