First Baptist Church is a vibrant, 170-year-old Southern Baptist, community – focused congregation in West Point, Mississippi, seeking a passionate, Christ centered Minister of Music to lead us in dynamic worship. We believe in honoring the richness of traditional hymns while embracing the energy of some contemporary music. Our congregation desires a skilled musician with a shepherd's heart who is ready to lead our worship choir and provide support for generational specific choirs and instrumentalists. We are seeking someone who will work with our Pastor and ministry team to shepherd our flock and help our congregation enter the presence of God.

Position summary:

The Minister of Music will oversee all musical aspects of our church to plan and lead spiritually filled services which encourage congregational participation. This role requires versatility, expertise in choral directing, proficiency in leading praise songs, and the ability to foster a nurturing community within our music ministry as well as the ability to manage necessary technology, software, and a team of volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

· Worship leading: Lead our congregation in worship, combining contemporary praise songs and traditional hymns with excellence

· Rehearsal Leadership: Plan and lead weekly rehearsals for the choir and musicians and provide music in a timely and organized manner

· Choir Direction: Direct the Adult Worship Choir and provide support for Youth and Children's Choirs while fostering musical excellence and spiritual growth in participants

· Collaboration: Work closely with the Pastor to select music that aligns with the weekly message and themes

· Team Development: Recruit, mentor and encourage volunteer musicians and vocalists of varying skill levels

· Service Planning: Curate a blended worship experience that includes both historic hymns and modern, theologically sound music

· Technologically Capable: Proficient in using Planning Center or another similar platform to communicate with choir members, musicians and fellow staff members

Qualifications:

· A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the Christian faith.

· A clear and true calling to ministry

· Affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000

· Proven experience in directing choirs and leading congregational worship

· Strong musical ability including vocal and instrumental

· Knowledge of various music genres, from traditional/historic hymns to Contemporary Christian Music

· Willingness to provide support to Youth and Children's musical programs

· Strong organizational and ministry leadership skills

· Technologically proficient
