Job Title: Minister of Youth/Assistant To The Pastor

Position Status: Bi-vocational

Location: Lexington, Kentucky

Position Overview: The Minister of Youth/Assistant to the Pastor is a vital member of the pastoral team, reporting directly to the Senior Pastor. The primary focus of this position is to develop a thriving, growing and effective youth program. This role also encompasses general pastoral duties, supporting the Senior Pastor in various aspects of church ministry, including discipleship, outreach, visitation and worship. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for reaching and discipling young people, a heart for pastoral care and a burden for evangelism. The candidate must be called by God to this particular area of ministry and possess the necessary gifts for such a calling.

Responsibilities:

Minister of Youth: (Grades 6-12)

Vision & Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive youth ministry aligned with the church's mission, values and doctrinal positions.

Program Development: Plan and execute engaging and relevant programs, including, but not limited to, weekly meetings, Youth Sunday School program, Bible studies, retreats, mission projects, special events and mentoring efforts. Participate in the planning and implementation of Vacation Bible School.

Discipleship: Create opportunities for youth to grow in their faith through Biblical teaching, small groups, participation in regular worship services, and other avenues.

Relationship Building: Build strong relationships with youth, their parents, and school personnel. To also encourage regular attendance and participation in the regular services of the church and other special events.

Outreach & Growth: Develop and implement strategies to reach unchurched youth and families in the community. Evangelism is at the heart of all ministries at Highlands, and this position requires a desire to share the gospel with others and to lead them to Christ.

Open Communication: Maintain effective communication with youth, parents, congregation, ministerial staff, and deacons. Regular meetings and close communication shall be maintained with the Senior Pastor.

Evaluations: Periodic evaluations and feedback (debriefs) will be given by pastor in order to ensure the program is effective and in agreement with the overall direction of the church. Is the youth program growing in number of youth, are young people being saved, and is there spiritual growth in those participating in the youth program?

Assistant To The Pastor Duties: (In addition to the responsibilities of Youth Minister)

Music Ministry Support: (Desired, but not required for position) If hired with this ability – In the absence of Minister of Music, it shall be the responsibility of the Assistant To The Pastor to "stand in" as Minister of Music. This would occur when Minister of Music is temporarily absent due to vacations, sickness, or other circumstances. On the occasion that the office of Minister of Music is vacant, the Assistant To The Pastor shall serve as "acting Minister of Music" only until the position is filled. All duties of the Minister of Music shall reside with the Assistant To The Pastor while fulfilling this role.

Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral care to individuals and families in the church, including hospital visits and spiritual guidance.

Preaching/Teaching: Fill the pulpit for pastor when needed in the regular services of the church.

Outreach & Evangelism: Participate in and support church outreach initiatives.

Collaboration: Partner with and collaborate with all leaders, departments and staff of the church.

Administration: Assist the Senior Pastor with such administrative tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Church Events: Help with the setup, tear down and leading of church events.

Other: Perform other duties as directed by the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications and Expectations:

Salvation & Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrate a saved and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to living a life of Godliness and Christian integrity.

Doctrinal Adherence: Possess a strong understanding of Biblical teaching and principles. Be in full and complete agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message from a Traditional Southern Baptist perspective. Highlands is a Traditional Southern Baptist church and does not adhere to Reformed Theology. You must answer and sign the Candidate Doctrinal Declaration Statement and adhere to that agreement while holding an official and/or paid ministerial position with Highlands Baptist Church. (This will be part of the application process).

Calling to Ministry: This position is a staff ministerial office, and those who hold this office must be "called" to this area of ministry and be able to articulate said calling.

Relational Skills: Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build rapport with youth, adults and staff.

Leadership Skills: Demonstrate wisdom in decision-making and effective leadership and organizational skills. Be able to develop a team of volunteers to aid you in the youth ministry of Highlands Baptist Church.

Teaching Ability: Possess the ability to teach and communicate Biblical truths in a clear and engaging manner.

Teamwork: Be a team player, willing to collaborate with others and support the direction and vision of the church. Understand the youth program is a ministry of Highlands Baptist Church and not an independent entity.

Passion for Youth: Demonstrate a genuine love and passion for working with youth.

Adaptability: Be flexible and adaptable to changing needs, circumstances and situations.

Professionalism: Maintain a Christlike and professional demeanor that reflects honor upon the church and our Lord, intentionally avoiding any conduct that could create a negative impression within the community.

Confidentiality: Uphold strict confidentiality standards in all matters related to pastoral care.

Membership, Bylaws and Regular Attendance: Active membership with Highlands Baptist Church is mandatory, and candidate must adhere to the bylaws and Church Covenant of the church. Attendance at all services is mandatory unless leading a youth service, youth meeting or event, sickness, vacation or otherwise approved by Senior Pastor.

Valid Driver's License

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Other Education: College-level studies in ministry, Biblical studies, education or a related field (completed or in progress) (online or on campus). Applicants without a degree may qualify if they have begun or plan to begin and complete official, structured ministry training. Those entering into school must do so within 90 days of accepting the position. Enrollment in or degree from an official SBC school is not required.

Previous experience in youth ministry a plus.

Compensation: This is a bi-vocational position. Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and other relevant qualifications.
