Church Overview
We are a Southern Baptist, Multi-Ethnic church with predominately African American Members. We are Christ-centered congregation of approximately 100 members seeking a Pastor Elect to shepherd, lead, and grow with our church family. Our congregation values biblical preaching, authentic worship, strong fellowship, community outreach, and spiritual growth across generations. We are prayerfully seeking a bi-vocational candidate who senses God's call to serve while maintaining outside employment. The Church will provide housing to the chosen candidate in addition to a salary.
Position Summary
The Pastor Elect will serve as the spiritual leader of the congregation, working collaboratively with church leadership to provide biblical teaching, pastoral care, and vision for the church. This role is structured for a bi-vocational minister who can effectively balance ministry leadership with outside employment.
The Pastor Elect will transition into the Senior Pastor role upon successful completion of a minimal evaluation period of at least 18 months. The ideal candidate should be well versed with King James Version and the English Standard Version of the Bible.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preaching & Teaching
Prepare and deliver biblically sound, Spirit-led sermons on Sunday morningsLead or oversee Bible studies and discipleship opportunitiesEnsure doctrinal integrity consistent with the church's statement of faith2. Pastoral Care
· Provide spiritual counseling and guidance
· Visit members in hospitals, homes, jails and care facilities as needed
Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and communion services Ability to work collaboratively with lay leadership· 3. Leadership & Administration
Work collaboratively with church ministry council, deacons, and ministry leadersProvide vision and direction for church growth and spiritual developmentOversee ministry planning and coordinate volunteersParticipate in regular leadership meetings4. Outreach & Evangelism
Encourage congregational involvement in community outreachRepresent the church within the local communityPromote evangelistic and mission-focused initiativesProvide leadership to the church community center5. Discipleship & Congregational Development
Equip members for ministryMentor emerging leadersFoster unity and spiritual maturity within the body
Qualifications
Spiritual & Character Qualifications
Demonstrates a clear calling to pastoral ministryMeets biblical qualifications for church leadership (e.g., 1 Timothy 3; Titus 1)Strong personal devotional life and moral integrityCommitment to servant leadershipEducation & Experience
Formal theological education preferred (seminary degree or equivalent ministry experience)Previous pastoral or ministry leadership with a minimum of five years' experience preferredExperience serving in a bi-vocational capacity is a plus, or Ten years of Lead Pastor experience could request consideration to be appointed full time.Skills & Competencies
Strong biblical preaching and teaching abilityEffective interpersonal and communication skills · Organizational and time-management skills suitable for bi-vocational ministry
Time Commitment
Approximately 15–25 hours per week (negotiable)Sunday worship servicesMidweek leadership and ministry responsibilities as agreedAvailability for emergencies and critical pastoral care situations
