About Lakewood Baptist Church

Lakewood Baptist Church began in the fall of 2009, starting as a gathering of about fifty people meeting in an elementary school. The vision was clear: "Growing People through God's Word."

Since then, Lakewood has grown both spiritually and numerically. By God's grace alone, the church acquired land in Pewaukee along the I-94 corridor, paid it off, built a permanent facility, and then expanded it to accommodate about 700 Sunday worshipers.

The church is deeply committed to orthodox Christianity, fulfilling the Great Commission, and a serious approach to church life that includes believer's baptism by immersion, meaningful church membership, and expositional preaching. The pastors teach from a perspective of moderate dispensationalism, Calvinistic soteriology, and a complementarian approach to gender roles. Our prayer is that we hold our doctrinal convictions firmly, as we communicate God's truth with love and grace.

Most recently, Lakewood is experiencing growth pains, averaging over 700 in our Sunday worship service, baptizing new believers, and welcoming many members. Our church recently sent forty people and a pastor to plant Risen Hope Church, and we desire to continue our efforts by planting faithful churches toward Milwaukee. This vision will require us to continue to develop pastorally-capable leaders for our own ministry and also for future church-planting teams.

Envisioned Role

We are seeking a seasoned pastor to join our pastoral team as Pastor for Mentoring. This man will carry the baton of raising up future pastors and church-planting teams. The mission is to mentor those preparing for ministry and to help prepare Lakewood to multiply through future church plants.

Due to the size and budget of our congregation, the Pastor for Mentoring will use roughly fifty percent of his time to minister generally as a pastor of Lakewood, complementing our existing team and meeting existing ministry needs according to his specific giftedness. Opportunities may include evangelism, discipleship, teaching, counseling, family ministry, or administration.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Meet the biblical requirements found in the Pastoral Epistles.
• Have at least 10 years of ministry experience, including significant teaching and leadership roles.
• Hold at minimum a Master of Divinity or equivalent degree.
• Affirm Lakewood's Confession of Faith.
• Be willing to relocate to Waukesha or Milwaukee County.
• Agree to the stated annual compensation of $92,000 + benefits.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Some of the primary responsibilities will include:

1. 1. Mentoring Future Pastors — Establish a pastoral residency program in which men who evidence pastoral giftedness may pursue a seminary-level education, while receiving mentoring and ministry experience. He will oversee residents, aiming to develop their character, helping them hone their skills for ministry, and preparing them to serve on church-planting teams in various roles.
   2. Collaboration — Work closely with other pastors, especially the Lead Pastor and the Pastor for Counseling & Care, who are capable of teaching in the residency program.

• General Pastoral Ministry — Work with the lead pastor to identify another area of pastoral oversight according to giftedness. This may include teaching and training teachers, counseling and training counselors, equipping for evangelism and leading corporate outreach endeavors, or another area of ministry for which the candidate is well-suited.
