Job Overview

Summary

The Pastor's role is to assist the Session in overseeing the life and direction of the church. The pastor will have a firm grasp of the church's Mission, values, and strategy in addition to aligning ordained lay staff and critical leadership committees with its mission. The Pastor will ensure that the church's operation, practices, and policies responsibly and effectively support its ministerial mission. The Pastor shall provide spiritual and administrative leadership to the congregation of Grace Presbyterian Church and the lay leadership.

Qualifications

  • Affirm Jesus Christ as the head of the church, and his divinity as the Son of Triune God, whose written Word and incarnate being lead, direct, call and challenge us to be his disciples
  • Affirm the scriptures of the Old and New Testament as the authoritative Word of God, using these scriptures for the purpose of the Christian life and the Body of Christ
  • Minimum of Master of Divinity from an accredited theological seminary
  • Receive, adopt, and be bound by the Essential Tenets of ECO
  • Experience in church growth/building would be helpful
  • Ordination in the ECO denomination or willing to do so

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties • Provide Christian guidance and counsel to those who seek spiritual direction

• Preach sermons based on the Bible, consistent with ECO teachings/essential tenets

• Coordinate sermons and preaching with Lay Pastor(s)

• Utilize long range planning of sermons so that music, liturgy, and church life events may be planned to complement the sermons

• Moderate Session and Congregational meetings

• Work with the Lay Pastor(s) and Session to establish the vision, direction, and priorities of the church

• Represent the church at Presbytery and Synod

• Administer the Sacraments as approved by Session

• Grow professional skills

• Work with Session, Diaconate, and Committees; and, serve as a liaison to Session committees, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:

– Worship Committee – Christian Education Committee – Budget and Finance Committee – Congregational Care Committee – Mission and Evangelism Committee – Property Committee – Personnel Committee

• Provide pastoral care, together with the Lay Pastor(s), including Session-approved weddings and funerals for individuals and families within the congregation

• Work closely with the Diaconate to learn of special needs of members and their prayer requests

• Visit members in the hospitals as needed

• Visit and correspond with visitors, members, officers, homebound and inactive members as needed

• The Pastor will provide annual evaluations of church staff during the fourth quarter of the year, in conjunction with the Personnel Committee

• The Pastor is called to work on a full-time basis, with additional hours as needed
