Pastor
Mountain Creek Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking the man God has called to fill the position of full-time Pastor. We are a traditional Southern Baptist Church seeking growth and deeper discipleship with an average attendance of 50 in worship. Mountain Creek Baptist is in a rural part of Oxford, NC, located in Northern Granville County and was founded in 1860.
Purpose: The Pastor serves as the spiritual leader of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and is responsible for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching Biblical scripture, providing pastoral care, and offering administrative leadership in all areas of church life and ministry. This role requires collaborative leadership with trustees, deacons, teachers, and officers to create opportunities for members and guests to worship, grow in their faith, and impact their communities through gospel-centered living.
Mountain Creek Baptist Church is a long-standing, multi-generational, family-oriented, and mission-minded congregation. We freely and voluntarily affiliate with the Flat River Baptist Association, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and the Southern Baptist Convention, while maintaining full autonomy as a local church body.
The Pastor will lead efforts to strengthen family ministry, expand young adult ministry, enhance community outreach, and attract new worshippers. This position is elected by the congregation for an indefinite term and is governed by agreements or covenants established at the time of the call or as subsequently revised.
As a representative of Mountain Creek Baptist Church, the Pastor shall remain mindful of the impact of political statements and uphold the church's commitment to not promote or endorse any political viewpoint, political party or political candidate.
Qualifications:
• Ordained and Licensed Minister of the Gospel
• Solid understanding of Christian and Baptist beliefs and theology
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Senior Pastor (preferred)
• Meets Biblical qualifications as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficient in computer and technology tools for ministry and administration
• Strong leadership abilities with strategic thinking and vision-casting skills
• Compassionate heart with the ability and desire to engage people of diverse backgrounds and all age groups
• Passionate about the Gospel and committed to a growing relationship with God
• Possess proven character and integrity, maintaining a vital personal relationship with the Lord.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preaching and Teaching
Deliver well-organized, Bible-based sermons during Sunday morning worship services. Provide weekly or biweekly Bible studies. Coordinate with the Deacons to secure a minister for Revival and Homecoming services. Present a brief message and prayer on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings. Support and occasionally participate in programs for children, youth, and adults. Participate in all church-wide activities, including Revival, Vacation Bible School, Homecoming, Joint Services, and the Christmas Program. Challenge and encourage the congregation to grow spiritually and promote passionate worship of God. Demonstrate knowledge and desire to preach and teach the entire Bible from Genesis through Revelation.
2. Discipleship and Evangelism
Lead the congregation in fulfilling the Great Commission by reaching the lost and unchurched. Foster biblical, emotional, social, and spiritual growth. Disciple members through Bible study, developing Christian maturity and depth of understanding with practical life applications.
3. Doctrinal Integrity
Uphold the doctrines, constitution, and by-laws of Mountain Creek Baptist Church with integrity.
4. Pastoral Care
· Visit sick, elderly, and bereaved members, including making urgent hospital visits, and maintaining regular contact with the church family.
Provide loving affirmation and support to individuals and families within the fellowship. Schedule flexible office hours as needed. Be available for emergencies as needed. Work with deacons to oversee pastoral care and nurture of church members.
5. Administration of Ordinances
Administer Baptism and Communion regularly and as needed.
6. Special Services
Perform weddings, baby dedications, and funerals upon request.
7. Generational Ministry
Ensure the church maintains a focus on ministries and initiatives that engage all generations. · Deliver passionate, well-prepared, and Bible-centered sermons that inspire worship, deepen understanding of Scripture, and encourage spiritual growth among the congregation.
8. Leadership and Input
Provide guidance and Input to deacons, committees, and church organizations as a non-voting ex officio member. (Ex officio provide input, not sense of supervision, management, etc.) Encourage and support persons, programs, and ministries within the church family.
9. Administrative Duties
Coordinates church activities with the Church Council and serves as chair. Develop a personal vision and is willing to lead in the development of a shared vision for the future of our church. Represent the church to visitors and those who contact the church. Work with the Trustees and Deacons to see that the facilities of the church are functional and in good repair. Participate in the Flat River Baptist Associational programs and activities. Represent Mountain Creek Baptist Church in local and state programs and activities. Meet annually with the Budget and Finance Committee. Remain directly accountable to the congregation in the performance of ministry.
10. Coverage Planning
Provide a plan for a qualified person to conduct services during absences due to vacation, illness, or other circumstances.
