Position Overview:

The pastor is responsible for ensuring that the church achieves its mission by strengthening the spiritual development of members and leading them to reach out into the community to witness for Jesus Christ and to welcome them into membership.

Responsibilities: ( Including but not limited to):

Pulpit ministry; including Sunday sermons, funerals, weddings, and special services

Minister to all ages, especially those who are ill, bereaved, or in hurting situations, taking sacraments toshut-ins, and hospital visitation

Work with the congregation to reach out into the community with the good news of the Gospel and work regularly at bringing new members into the church

Moderate monthly session meetings, congregational meetings and attend quarterly deacon's meetings

Office work, including the weekly bulletin; computer, printer, copy machine, etc. are provided in pastor's office. The church does not employ a secretary.

Be willing to initiate and support adult, children and youth ministries

Regularly attend and be active in Presbytery, accepting committee assignments

Present engaging Biblical sermons with enthusiasm

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Be comfortable in a rural village setting, enjoy the give and take of honest discourse and possess a warm sense of humor

Big Creek Presbyterian Church, Hannibal, Missouri –prayerfully seeks a Solo Pastor who will shepherd and inspire our congregation of 40+ members. Big Creek has always had a heart for mission and a calling to care for neighbors, friends, and family. We are a Biblically-oriented and giving group of believers.

We are asking God to lead us to a pastor who will present Biblical sermons with enthusiasm and establish personal relationships with our small, loving flock. We are seeking a pastor who can help us grow spiritually and help us reach out into the community with the good news of the Gospel. It is important that our pastor take pleasure in the fellowship of those who are part of the church body as well as those in the community who do not attend worship. The pastor should enjoy the give and take of honest discourse and possess a warm sense of humor.

In addition to carrying out day-to-day pastoral duties, Big Creek is seeking a pastor who will:

• Cultivate a close, devotional relationship with God
• Be effective in planning and leading worship
• Visit and encourage all, especially those who are ill, bereaved, or in hurting situations
• Love to preach and teach to help the congregation live as faithful Christians
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Work regularly to bring new members into the church and help create a vision for growth
• Reach out to inactive members

Big Creek Church was established in 1834, and is located in Rensselaer, MO. The community is small, rural and agriculturally based. The church is located 10 miles west of Hannibal, MO and 100 miles north of St. Louis. Hannibal is well-known as the boyhood home of author Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens). The church and adjacent manse (5 bedrooms, 2 full baths) are located in the Monroe City R-1 School District.
