Pastoral Residency

Job Overview

The Pastoral Residency is a two-year, full-time paid pastoral position for qualified men who want to be trained in the practical elements of church leadership. Our goal is to equip aspiring pastors to step into vocational ministry with confidence and with spiritual, emotional, and relational health as a foundation for sustainable ministry.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES Pastoral Residents will be responsible to:

1. Serve on Rock Hill's pastoral team, under the authority of the elder team. They will share general pastoral duties such as making and maturing disciples, praying for the church and city, leading a City Group, and care/counseling.
2. Have significant leadership and oversight of volunteers at one of Rock Hill's campuses depending on the needs of the campus (e.g. leading the Welcome Team at Chester Park, leading men's ministry at Lincoln Park, etc.). These specific ministry tasks will be assigned by their Residency Supervisor. Residents will also visit and assist with ministry at other campuses as needed.
3. Preach and teach in a variety of contexts (e.g. Sunday morning, funerals, youth group). Residents will receive training for preparation and feedback afterward.
4. Meet regularly with their Residency Supervisor for mentorship and coaching.
5. Participate in weekly ministry training using Practically Trained Pastors: A 52- Week Field Guide for Ministry in the Trenches with the Pastor of Teaching. Residents will complete the required prework (readings, etc.) on their own time.
6. If a resident didn't go to seminary and requires biblical/theological training, they will complete seminary-level coursework through BiblicalTraining.org. They will complete the nine core Institute classes and any elective courses as needed.
7. Participate in weekly staff/shepherding meetings, monthly planning meetings, monthly campus elder meetings, and at least two central elder meetings per year.
8. As opportunities arise, participate in week-long or weekend intensive studies.
9. Receive informal mentorship from both Rock Hill pastors and retired pastors.
10. We ask residents to pursue credentials for licensing in the EFCA as an aid in their pastoral development and as a way to connect to the broader church. In addition, residents can decide whether to pursue ordination in the EFCA.

REQUIREMENTS

• We require residents to agree with our Statement of Faith and Doctrinal Distinctives, to commit to exhibit a lifestyle that is consistent with the same, and to become a member of our church.
• We require residents to read our Employee Handbook and sign the Acknowledge Statement at the end.
• Because residents are part of our pastoral team, candidates must meet the character requirements for an elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. A candidate must also demonstrate a passion for evangelism and sharing the gospel with people, a passion for discipleship and leading people to grow in Christ, a desire to equip and empower the saints for the work of ministry, and alignment with our church's unique vision/mission.
