Job Overview
First Congregational Church of Woodstock (FCCW), Vermont,
an independent, bible-believing, reformed church, is actively searching for a Senior Pastor
whom God has chosen to lead us into the future. We seek to grow our church by being
flexible to the needs of people of all ages and adapting in ways that engage younger
generations. Our landmark church (built in 1808) is in historic Woodstock; a scenic resort
community of 3000 year-round residents located between the Killington Resort (20 miles to
the west) and Dartmouth College (20 miles to the east). Along with being a man of Christian character, zeal for the Gospel, we look for a man with strong preaching skills.
In addition base salary, we provide a large and well maintained brick parsonage built in 1827, located 200 ft from the church.
Job Description

Spiritual Leadership
- Lead the congregation in spiritual growth, prayer, worship, and discipleship.
- Prepare and deliver biblically grounded, engaging, and relevant sermons.
- Administer sacraments including Communion and Baptism.
- Provide theological guidance consistent with our bylaws
- Foster a welcoming church culture.
Pastoral Care
- Provide pastoral counseling and spiritual support to members and families.
- Visit congregants in homes, hospitals, care facilities, and during times of crisis.
- Officiate weddings, funerals, memorial services, and other special services.
- Support members through life transitions with compassion and confidentiality.
Leadership & Administration
- Collaborate with church boards, committees, and ministry leaders.
- Provide strategic vision and leadership for church ministries and programs.
- Supervise church staff (1) and support volunteer development.
- Participate in budgeting, stewardship initiatives, and long-range planning.
- Ensure effective communication across the congregation.
Community Engagement
- Represent the church within the Woodstock community and broader faith networks.
- Encourage outreach, mission work, and community partnerships.
- Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and service groups.
- Promote hospitality and engagement with visitors and new members.
Worship & Christian Education
- Work with music leaders and worship teams to plan worship services.
- Encourage intergenerational participation in worship and ministry.
- Support Bible studies, youth ministry, adult education, and faith formation programs.
Qualifications
- Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological degree from an accredited seminary.
- Strong preaching, teaching, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to lead collaboratively and foster healthy relationships.
- Commitment to community engagement and compassionate ministry.
- Administrative and organizational leadership experience preferred.
