Senior Pastor

We are seeking a full-time Senior Pastor to shepherd a healthy, growing, and multi-generational congregation committed to biblical faithfulness and discipleship.

Senior Pastor Duties

The Senior Pastor is the primary under-shepherd of the church who must give an account to God (Hebrews 13:17). He devotes himself to the ministry of the Word and to prayer and protecting the doctrinal and spiritual purity of the church (Acts 6:4; James. 4:1-6). He is responsible for shepherding, equipping, teaching, training, and correcting the believers (Ephesians 4:11-16; Acts 20:28-35). The Senior Pastor will work with the Called Staff, the Deacons, and Committees to lead the church in the achievement of its mission, proclaim the Gospel to believers and unbelievers, and equip and care for the church's members and other persons in the community. The Senior Pastor will lead the Called Staff as a team, As the leader of the Called Staff, he will strive to lead the staff by consensus as they seek God's guidance regarding the spiritual oversight of the church. He should visibly value all ministries of IABC.

Preaching and Teaching (Acts 6:4; 1 Timothy 5:17)

He will carefully study and proclaim the Word of God under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13). He will preach and teach scripture in a clear, expository, and Christ-centered manner that encourages spiritual growth, obedience, and application in daily life. The Senior Pastor serves as the primary teaching pastor for Sunday services and other teaching opportunities as appropriate.

Qualifications

The Senior Pastor should meet the biblical qualifications as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. He must have exemplary faithfulness to his wife and should not have had a divorce without biblical basis. He should believe in the inerrancy of the word of God. He should also be committed to the historic beliefs of the Southern Baptists and Baptist Faith and Message 2000. The Senior Pastor should have a Bachelor's degree from a four-year, accredited university. A Master's degree from an accredited seminary and previous experience in church leadership and/or pastorate are required. He must be ordained or licensed by a Baptist church to the Gospel Ministry or have the ability and desire to become ordained or licensed.

Desired Characteristics

The Senior Pastor will be a model of his teaching and training. He sets an example for his flock in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12; 1 Peter 5:1-4). He is to be exemplary in his spiritual, marital, familial, ministerial, and financial life.

Compensation

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
