Northern Heights Baptist Church (NHBC) is a large church in Norfolk, a community of over 26,000 in Madison County in Northeast Nebraska. From a core of five families in 1970, the church has experienced steady growth in both depth and numbers. But there is a clear sense among the people of NHBC that the best is yet to come.

The previous senior pastor resigned in late 2023 after faithfully serving for 20 years. In order to address some issues and start preparing for the next season of growth, NHBC hired an intentional interim pastor (from IPM) in early 2024. With his help, we have experienced numerous breakthroughs. Here are a few highlights: For many years, the church attempted (unsuccessfully) to recognize elders who could partner with the senior pastor in leading the church. In this interim season, God raised up a cadre of men who have covenanted to shepherd the flock as growth assets and ministry coaches. Godly leaders added!

We applied grace to numerous fractured relationships with current and former members and staff. We used the graces of confession and forgiveness to reconcile with our previous senior pastor and brought him back for a sweet time of blessing. Relationships healed! We worked through a doctrinal controversy that was affecting our unity. Unity restored! We adopted an approach to our first hour ministry on Sunday that has doubled participation. Ministry expanded! We have seen almost 50% of those who attend step forward to engage in ministry. Our student ministry is flourishing and having increasing impact with many youth from our community. Laborers added! We could go on, but you get the idea.

Bottom line: We believe God is preparing us for a season of growth and fruitfulness that goes beyond anything we have experienced before. And we are looking for a lead pastor who has a Great Commission heart to partner with us in what God has before us. We are ready for God to open the next door!
