Position Overview
The Senior Pastor will serve as the primary spiritual and relational leader of Old Lexington Baptist Church. He will shepherd the congregation through biblically sound preaching, proactive pastoral care, and intentional leadership development.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Preaching & Teaching
· Prepare and deliver biblically sound, Christ-centered sermons each week for.
· Provide clear, practical application of Scripture that engages the congregation and addresses everyday life issues.
· Lead, support, or offer additional Bible studies as needed, exploring the introduction of new daytime or evening classes to accommodate various schedules.
2. Pastoral Care & Presence
· Provide intentional pastoral care through home, hospital, and community visitations, phone calls, and prayer.
· Be available to walk alongside families and provide comfort during major life milestones and sensitive events, including weddings, births, funerals, and serious diagnoses (such as cancer or sudden illnesses).
· Build meaningful relationships within the church, ensuring dedicated outreach and care to senior and homebound members.
3. Leadership & Direction
· Serve as the spiritual leader of the church, guiding the congregation with humility, clarity, and biblical conviction.
· Work collaboratively with deacons, committees, and leadership teams to provide unified direction and healthy planning.
· Foster a natural, community-driven church environment by participating in and encouraging fellowship meals, Bible studies, and casual summer get-togethers.
· Help the church take proactive, gradual steps forward to welcome new visitors, engage
young families, and foster wider member participation.
4. Equipping & Delegation
· Equip members to share in ministry responsibilities, cultivating a healthy culture where lay leadership and volunteers are actively developed.
· Create and teach structured, intentional classes designed to help members grow, including a dedicated New Members Class to smoothly assimilate those who join the church.
5. Community Connection
· Encourage and guide local community outreach initiatives to connect with neighbors and invite local families into the church.
· Represent the church well within the local community as time allows.
· Provide oversight and encouragement for targeted programs based on congregational needs, such as youth outreach, localized gospel outreach, grief/support groups, or a widow ministry.
Qualifications
● A clear, definitive calling to pastoral ministry.
● Full agreement and alignment with the Baptist Faith & Message (2000).
● Ability to preach and teach God's Word effectively with clear, practical application for all ages.
● A relational heart for shepherding, showing empathy, availability, and a solid understanding of small-church dynamics.
● Formal theological or ministry training (Bible degree, seminary, or equivalent) is preferred, but equivalent ministry experience will be highly valued.
