Senior Pastor
Job Overview
The Senior Pastor strategically leads Victory Baptist Church in achieving our mission of working together to reach the next generation for Jesus Christ. He will serve, lead, and teach our body of believers, under the direction of God's Holy Spirit, through the instruction of God's Word. The Senior Pastor's role is to work to develop, communicate, and equip the church to implement a vision for gospel growth within our fellowship and gospel outreach to our community and the world.
Job Description
Ministry Responsibilities
- The Senior Pastor shall be responsible for casting the mission, vision, and direction of the ministry of Victory Baptist Church.
- He shall function as the primary preaching pastor, overseeing all preaching, even when absent. He will guard this sacred responsibility, ensuring all teaching is sound, gospel-centered, and grounded in the Word of God.
- Train and disciple leaders, equipping and empowering the church to do the work of ministry (Eph 4).
- Together with the Hispanic Pastor, Student Pastor, Minister of Music, Deacons, and other church leaders, he will strategize, lead, and implement church-wide initiatives to further the church's mission and the kingdom of God.
Administrative Responsibilities
- The Senior Pastor shall be responsible for the recommendation for hiring, the supervision of, and dismissal of all employed church staff, including the principal of Chilton Christian Academy.
- Provide direct leadership to the pastoral and office staff, building a culture of purpose and unity as this team pursues its mission to bring glory to Christ.
- The Senior Pastor shall assign the duties of all staff and be responsible for their fruitful conduct by ensuring that all staff members fulfill the requirements of their job descriptions through annual evaluations and interim corrective action when needed.
- The Senior Pastor will provide each staff member a job description and a personnel manual, which will include, among other things, a review of the general expectations of employees, an overview of employee benefits, and grievance procedures.
- Serves as chief administrator of all church ministries, including Chilton Christian Academy.
- Maintains administrative oversight of Chilton Christian Academy while delegating all operational activity to the principal.
- The Senior Pastor shall annually propose a General Ministry Budget document to the Board of Trustees and, with the Board's approval, present the General Ministry Budget to the congregation.
- The Senior Pastor shall annually propose a Ministry Plan document, including the General Ministry Budget, a Staffing Plan, and a Ministry Team Report to the Board of Trustees.
- The Senior Pastor shall be responsible for annually reviewing and recommending salary and benefit adjustments to the Board of Trustees of others on the pastoral staff and non-pastoral staff for the sake of inclusion in the Proposed General Budget.
- Schedule and moderate quarterly ministry business meetings.
- The Senior Pastor shall be accountable to the church body for the faithful discharge of duties as described in this position description.
Other Responsibilities
- Serve our families in conducting weddings and funerals as needed, along with other pastors.
- Serve the Lord's Supper, or Communion. This can be delegated to other pastors.
- Encourage and conduct baptisms as the Lord provides new converts or as growing believers desire to be baptized. This can be delegated to other pastors.
- Along with other pastors, provide short-term counseling to couples or individuals within the church, maintaining the highest standards of moral integrity, biblical counsel, and confidentiality.
- Provide premarital counseling.
- Visit members and prospects as well as the sick.
- Provide leadership to the worship leader regarding the form and content of music used in our worship service.
- Promote faith-promise giving efforts to support the mission projects of Victory Baptist Church.
- Provide leadership to the Deacon Board, assisting the board with meeting dates and agendas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/ Qualification Requirements
- A demonstrated gifting and background in preaching God's word – is experienced in the discipline of sermon prep and delivery regularly.
- Has undergone formal theological/ministry training (Seminary degree or equivalent is preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a pastor (preferred), or equivalent experience in other full-time ministry.
- Has demonstrated faithfulness and fruitfulness in ministry.
- The Senior Pastor shall meet the Biblical standards for elders outlined in I Timothy and Titus.
- The Senior Pastor shall be a regularly ordained or Licensed Minister.
- He shall become a church member within 90 days after installation as the Senior Pastor.
- Experience with a multi-service church and Christian school ministry (preferred).
Character/Spiritual Life Requirements
- Should defend the Bible as being without error.
- Must have good spiritual disciplines, including, but not limited to, a private devotional time, commitment to regular worship, tithing, and giving.
- Possess a history of compassionate character, demonstrating the activity of the Holy Spirit with fruit as listed in Galatians 5.
- Displays a heart of humility, evidenced in his willingness to shepherd and serve sacrificially.
- Has a love for God's word and a passion for making disciples.
- Ability to create and execute vision.
- Must be in complete agreement with Victory Baptist Church's mission statement and core beliefs.
Hours and Benefits
- The Senior Pastor is classified as a full-time, exempt employee. This is a minimum 40-hour per week position.
- Benefits offered will be consistent with the current policy for insurance, paid time off (PTO), and holidays.
