Job Overview
Crosspoint Fellowship is a reformed baptist church seeking to fill the role of Staff Pastor to join the other elders in shepherding and leading the church through the ministry of the Word and discipleship. We are a church committed to the authority of Scripture and the centrality of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are in the process of adopting the 2nd London Baptist Confession (1689) as a summary of our doctrinal convictions, pending congregational affirmation. It is our hope that this Pastor Profile will assist prospective applicants in discerning whether their vision, values, qualifications, and mission are aligned with the needs of Crosspoint Fellowship.
The Staff Pastor should embody the qualifications for elders outlined in the pastoral epistles. Additionally, he should be:
A Man of Prayer and Devotion: Deeply committed to communion with God in prayer, meditation on Scripture, and reliance on the Holy Spirit. His ministry should flow from a committed personal spiritual life.
A Humble Leader: Not domineering or self-promoting, but one who leads by example, and uses the gifts of others to foster unity within the church body. He should seek to be approachable and desire to be among the people.
Relationally Wise: Able to build relationships across generations, handle conflict biblically, and mentor emerging leaders. Able to guide different groups within the church to a unified vision without division. Values input from others and is skilled at resolving conflict. Not easily wearied by the inevitable difficulties of relationships in a fallen world, but able to draw hope from the power of the gospel to heal and progress. A master at "triaging" issues and knows when the situation or issue demands firmness and when maturity will allow yielding and leaving something unsettled.
A Loving Husband and Father: Able to manage his household well, with a supportive family that reflects godly priorities. He does not neglect the spiritual well-being of his family, but is able to handle the demands of ministry without losing sight of his calling as a husband/father.
Educationally Prepared to Preach and Teach: Skilled in rightly handling the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15). He should be passionate about teaching sound doctrine, refuting error, and applying Scripture to the hearts of hearers. Possession of a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) is valued, but not required. He should have accumulated sufficient knowledge to be able to masterfully present the Christian faith in all it's depth and contours. His gaps in theological knowledge should be few. He should be committed to ongoing learning and be continuously increasing in ability to teach with depth and precision.
Settled in Conviction: His learning should not be of a kind as described in 2 Tim 3:7: "always learning and never arriving at a knowledge of the truth", but should be a supplement to what is already established within him. He should value first-hand acquisition of knowledge from primary source study, while understanding the limitations of second-hand knowledge.
Experienced in Ministry: More than 5 years of pastoral experience is preferred, including preaching, counseling, and church leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience leading a staff and serving within a plurality of elders.
