CHURCH OVERVIEW

Friendship Baptist Church is a conservative Southern Baptist congregation located in Sykesville, Maryland, approximately 20 miles west of Baltimore. Founded in 1984, the church has a long-standing legacy of biblical preaching, cooperative missions, and multigenerational ministry.

The church averages approximately 300–450 in weekly worship across two Sunday morning services. Our worship style is best described as contemporary with blended elements, including a praise band, praise team, gospel choir, and traditional hymns. We utilize modern technology and media to support worship and teaching.

Friendship Baptist Church affirms and adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message (1963, 2000) and seeks to make fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ through worship, discipleship, fellowship, and mission.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Student & Christian Education Pastor serves as a key member of the pastoral staff, providing vision, leadership, and hands-on ministry to students and oversight to the church's broader discipleship and Christian education efforts.

This role exists to reach, disciple, and mobilize the next generation while strengthening a church-wide culture of biblical teaching, relational discipleship, and spiritual growth. The position is intentionally relational, presence-driven, and ministry-active, not primarily programmatic or desk-bound.

ACCOUNTABILITY & RELATIONSHIPS

Reports directly to: Senior Pastor, Personnel Team Works closely with: Pastoral staff, Children's Ministry, Worship Ministry, and administrative staff. Supervises: Volunteers, teachers, and leaders. Accountable to: Senior Pastor, Personnel Team, and congregation Pastoring: Students, FBC Families, other needs as assigned

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

I. STUDENT MINISTRY (Approx. 60%)

Vision & Leadership

Cast and implement a clear vision for student ministry that aligns with the mission and theology of Friendship Baptist Church. Lead a growing NextGen Ministry for students in grades 6–12 that emphasizes discipleship, worship, missions, community and outreach. Plan, direct, supervise, lead and evaluate the weekly activities, including the Sunday Student Worship Service in coordination with Associate Pastor of Worship. The candidate must be able to effectively preach and communicate to a student audience. Recruit, equip, train, and mentor volunteer leaders. Weekly Programming & Teaching

Sunday Grow Groups (9:45 a.m.) Coordinate teachers and assistants. Oversee curriculum in collaboration with the Christian Education ministry. Sunday Morning Student (NextGen) Worship (11:00 a.m.) Program and coordinate worship elements: Schedule, Announcements, Preaching, Worship, Volunteers (Young Adults), etc. Tuesday Pastoral Staff Meeting (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) Weekly meeting with the pastoral staff for prayer, ministry alignment, and planning. The meeting focuses on pastoral care needs, coordination of upcoming services and events, and collaborative discussion to ensure all ministries are unified around the mission and vision of the church. Wednesday "Grounded" Bible Study (6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) Plan and lead a structured weekly gathering including: Welcome & announcements Games and relationship-building Bible teaching Coordinate volunteers, lesson preparation, tech, snacks, attendance, and guest follow-up. Thursday Worship Rehearsal (6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) Coordinate and develop student worship participation and training. Discipleship & Pastoral Care

Build intentional relationships with students and their families during Sunday activities and through regular contact. Provide pastoral care through prayer, encouragement, visitation, counseling, and presence during significant life moments. Follow up with first-time guests and families through texts, emails, and personal contact. Support and shepherd student ministry volunteers spiritually and relationally. Events, Outreach & Missions

Plan and lead monthly student activities ("Tribe Out" events). Coordinate retreats, camps, Disciple Now weekends, and mission opportunities. Manage event logistics including registration, forms, payments, transportation, and communication.

II. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION & DISCIPLESHIP (Approx. 40%)

Provide leadership for the church's Christian Education Strategy. Provide spiritual leadership and strategic oversight for FBC's Women's Ministry, Men's Ministry, and Young Adult Ministry teams. Recruit, equip, train, and mentor volunteer leaders for GrowGroups(Sunday) / ConnectionGroups (Weekdays/Evenings home groups). Support and strengthen the church's Sunday School / Grow Group / Small Group ministry for all ages. Assist in curriculum evaluation and teacher placement in coordination with church leadership. Participate in workshops, Bible classes, and discipleship pathways that equip the congregation. Promote a culture of lifelong discipleship and biblical literacy. Work with department leaders to improve organization, leader health, attendance care, teacher development, and assimilation into groups. Evaluate, recommend, and align curriculum and teaching resources with the church's doctrinal convictions and discipleship goals. Establish consistent processes for: guest assimilation into groups, follow-up for absentees, leader onboarding, and class/group multiplication. Plan and lead regular teacher/leader training and encouragement gatherings (including prayer and best-practice coaching). Develop and maintain a church-wide discipleship pathway for next steps (baptism, membership, foundational classes, leadership development). Use appropriate measurements to monitor health and growth.

ADMINISTRATION & COMMUNICATION

· Manage the Student Ministry and Christian Education Ministry budget, including expense tracking and budget requests.

· Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting.

· Draft and send weekly parent communications (email and digital platforms).

· Utilize church systems for scheduling, media, and organization.

· Capture photos and videos for ministry communication and social media.

· Maintain ministry spaces and supply organization.

· Evaluate ministry effectiveness and propose improvements with measurable goals.

SPIRITUAL & THEOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS

A clear personal testimony of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Evidence of a growing, disciplined spiritual life. Agreement with and commitment to The Baptist Faith and Message (1963 or 2000). Meets biblical qualifications for church leadership (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1). Models Christlike character, integrity, and relational maturity. Abstains from alcohol as a beverage and all recreational drug use. Demonstrate a shepherd's heart through relational care for students, families, teachers, and leaders. Model healthy personal boundaries and family priorities while maintaining a ministry-ready schedule.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Required / Preferred:

Bible College Degree (Theology, Student Minister, Christian Education or related). Seminary training would be a real plus. Prior experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and lead volunteers. Strong communication, organization, and relational skills. Comfortable using technology, media, and digital communication tools. Willingness to lead in the area of World Missions through participating in at least one mission trip per year.

WORK SCHEDULE & EXPECTATIONS

Full-time position depending on qualifications and church needs. Regular presence required on Sunday Activities, Staff Meetings and the student ministry activities. Evening and weekend responsibilities expected; schedule adjusted to allow healthy rhythms of rest and family time. Office hours coordinated with the Senior Pastor, with a mix of office, ministry, and relational presence. Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Full-Time Position

Salary + Housing: $63,000 – $71,000 (based on experience and qualifications) + Benefits include: dollar amounts are approximate Family Health/Dental/Vision insurance 16k-19k Retirement annuity ($ 4 – 7 k) Travel expense reimbursement Paid time off and ministry-related expenses Health Savings Account ($ 2- 4 k)

EVALUATION

Performance will be reviewed annually by the Senior Pastor, with ongoing feedback throughout the year. Evaluation will focus on spiritual leadership, effectiveness in student ministry and discipleship, teamwork, and alignment with the mission and values of Friendship Baptist Church.
