General Description:
The Student Minister is responsible for organizing, coordinating and implementing a healthy culture of discipleship for students (Junior High, High School and College). This includes being a resource for parents, ministering to students, equipping volunteers and fulfilling any other responsibilities assigned by the pastors.
Qualifications:
- The Student Minister must meet the qualifications of 1Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:6-9.
- The Student Minister must demonstrate a clear call to vocational ministry.
- The Student Minister must have earned or be pursuing a master's degree or higher in Biblical Studies or ministry related field.
- The Student Minister must have sufficient ministry experience.
- The Student Minister must be in full agreement with our statement of faith (The Baptist Faith and Message 2000).
Responsibilities:
Resource for Parents
The Student Minister will be available and provide resources to parents to assist them as they engage in discipleship within the home.
- Contact parents regularly for prayer, discussion and fellowship.
- Provide resources such as books, articles, podcasts, conferences, etc. that deal with family worship and teenage discipleship.
- Stay in touch with teenage/college trends in order to inform and guide parents to better engage their children at home.
- Develop healthy relationships with parents in order to partner well with them in their pursuit of making disciples at home.
- Plan & provide opportunities for students and parents to participate together in various events.
Ministering to Students
Lead students in gospel-centered discipleship through the proclamation of God's Word. Teach God's Word, develop personal relationships and interact with students outside the normal church gathering.
- Teach the full counsel of God's Word & ensure sound doctrine is being taught.
- Cultivate a welcoming environment motivated by grace, truth and love.
- Be available to counsel students as needed.
- Plan events that will help develop their spiritual growth.
- Lead students to develop spiritual disciplines: study, prayer and missions.
Equipping Volunteers
Develop and train new & current volunteers for service in the student ministry. This will primarily include developing small group leaders who will build intentional gospel-centered relationships with parents and students.
