Student Minister

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, KINGSPORT, TN STUDENT MINISTER JOB DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE: The Student Minister reports to the Pastor and is responsible for development, promotion, and execution of ministry to youth. All such church-oriented youth programs will be designed to provide fellowship and opportunities for Christian growth and evangelism to the following age groups: Middle School (Grades 6-8), High School (Grades 9-12), and College.

GENERAL DUTIES:

1. The Student Minister is responsible for planning and implementing youth and college programs. He/she is responsible for supervising, managing logistics and liability for all youth and/or college students while participating in church-oriented programs.

2. Oversee regularly scheduled youth and college programs such as Wednesday gatherings and Bible studies.

3. Introduce, organize and promote activities such as, but not limited to, retreats, service projects, mission trips, Youth VBS, Youth Sunday, College Sunday, fellowships, and conferences that will enhance evangelism and spiritual growth among youth and college students. Coordinate and promote all youth and college activities with church staff and Youth Advisory Council.

4. Maintain communication with parents, youth, and college students, regarding youth and college programs through the church newsletter and website, parent meetings and social/electronic media.

5. Be available to counsel, as appropriate, with youth and parents.

6. Develop and coordinate an ongoing, year-round, comprehensive ministry to college students.

7. Make hospital and homebound member visits on a rotating basis with other ministerial staff.

8. Work with ministerial staff to provide volunteer opportunities for youth through church ministries.

9. Consult with Minister to Young Adults and Families concerning the needs of parents of youth.

10. Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with other area youth ministers.

11. Perform all other duties as assigned by pastor.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Serve as the staff contact for all youth Sunday School programs.

2. Serve on the Youth Advisory Council and Scholarship Committee.

3. Work with Minister of Children on the VBS program.

4. Develop and justify Student Ministry yearly budget requirements (in conjunction with the Youth Advisory Council).

5. Have or willing to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver's License).

6. Meet regularly with the Youth Advisory Council and youth parents to engage parents and youth to assist in growth of our youth ministry.
