About the Office of Information Technology: The Information Technology (OIT) provides Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) with innovative, customer-focused IT support and core IT services. It serves as a partnership and collaboration with academic, research, and administrative departments to create a robust, best-in-class IT environment to advance the mission of RTS.
Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Technology, the Systems Administrator provides oversight, technical support, report building, and programming for all enterprise technology systems of the seminary. Focus is especially dedicated to student information systems (SIS), customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, financial systems, fundraising systems, and communications platforms. The role will coordinate activities on the Senior Director of Technology, COO, and CFO's behalf as requested.
Essential Job Functions
IT Operations
- Business Continuity and Efficiency
- Work independently and collaboratively to ensure core systems are up and running during expected operating hours.
- Ensure backups of core systems are valid and can be recovered.
- Report downtime of systems to internal constituents and vendors as appropriate.
- Review logs to proactively find and prevent problems.
- Apply appropriate security and system patches to maintain operational currency.
- Monitor performance and proactively resolve problems that may degrade system operations and efficiency.
- Assist in the analysis, vetting, and decision-making of implementing new systems or integrations with existing systems.
- Assist in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure systems can be restored after a disruption.
- Systems Administration
- Review and maintain systems upgrade documentation. Inform personnel of the implications of upgrades and changes.
- Thoroughly test upgrades and new code in development and test environments.
- Deploy code changes and upgrades to production environments.
- Define and assign appropriate security roles, groups, and responsibilities within systems to personnel who need access.
- Have a general understanding and mastery of all functionalities within a system.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of databases and their associated tables and functionalities.
- Development / Programming / Reporting
- Develop processes that automate tasks and procedures within systems.
- Develop and maintain integration processes.
- Write queries that can be used for reports or advanced technical or business processes.
- Use reporting tools to craft advanced reports and concepts for other personnel.
- Create data definitions, associations, and relationships in reporting tools for end users to use with click and drag or low-code report building.
- Program custom solutions where no vendor solution is available.
- Maintain legacy systems source code.
IT Service
- Provide timely Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for all organizational systems as assigned.
- Work with organizational stakeholders to identify trouble patterns and publish root cause analysis to OIT.
- Coordinate, research, and proactively plan maintenance to information systems according to service and manufacturer partner guidelines.
- Support OIT members in system integrations and project execution as applicable.
- Facilitate resolution of change requests and maintain a detailed record of changes.
- Research, test, and develop POC for emerging technologies relevant to RTS and OIT goals.
IT Standards
- Maintain detailed hardware and software inventories. Document changes and ensure inventories meet appropriate licensing terms. Notify the Senior Director of IT of discrepancies.
- Assist in policy and governance creation for information systems.
- Create and update documentation of information systems for OIT.
- Create and update runbooks for service providers.
- Create and update end user training materials as applicable.
- Facilitate end user training as applicable.
Additional Responsibilities and Requirements
- Coordinate and collaborate with other OIT team members for increased knowledge sharing and product improvement.
- Participate in special projects as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- General knowledge and/or expertise in the following technology systems, platforms, languages, or concepts:
- Microsoft SQL Server / SQL
- Windows Server
- HTML / CSS / JavaScript / C# / Visual Basic / C++
- SSIS
- SSRS
- Rapid Application Development
- Knowledge in any or all of the following platforms is a bonus:
- Salesforce
- Reporting tools- Power BI, Infomaker, Tableau, etc.
- Student Information Systems (SIS) as a concept (Ellucian, Jenzabar, Datatel, Sungard, Campus Management, Populi, CAMS, Unit4), preference given to Jenzabar
- Blackbaud Raiser's Edge / Financial Edge
- Microsoft 365 Administration
- Entra

Working Conditions
- Office setting, the noise level in the work environment(s) is relatively quiet. The position is based at the Reformed Theological Seminary campus.
- May require occasional travel for meetings, conferences, etc.

- Daily/majority of the day: sitting, computer work, screen time, keyboarding, typing, wrist flexing/extension and other repetitive movements.
- Daily/consistent: Professional judgment in alignment with organizational values and policies is required. Effective verbal and written communication are necessary to translate high-level instructions into an executable process flow and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make critical decisions.
- Frequently: Learning new software applications and recalling important processes
- Occasionally: kneeling, standing, reaching, twisting, grasping, and lifting (up to 20 pounds).

Knowledge/Skills Requirements
- Must be a faithful Christian
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying needs, conducting research, and developing and executing innovative proposals, solutions, and programs.
- Ability to work after hours, occasionally in the early morning, to perform systems maintenance a couple of times per month. Normal business hours will be the norm, and there will be the opportunity to flex hours when needed.
- Administrative experience with abilities to set priorities, organize and coordinate on IT operations, anticipates needs, work under the pressure of deadlines and exercises good judgment, particularly with sensitive or confidential matters.
- Strong self-motivation skills for independently establishing effective working relationships with various organizations, faculty and staff at all levels of the organization and demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team.
- Minimal travel requirements, largely to attend vendor or organizational conferences and yearly departmental meetings.
- Understanding that during an IT emergency, it may be necessary to be called in to work on premises for as long as needed to restore critical business services. Hours may be flexed, and days off compensated for abrupt emergency response scenarios.
- Must have familiarity with academic environments and experience supporting both academic and administrative IT needs (preferred).
