Role Summary

The Worship Resident (WR) of Mercy Church helps Mercy accomplish its mission by helping to ensure, alongside the appointed Campus Worship Leaders (CWL), that Mercy is making disciples who are worshippers of God both during worship services and throughout the rhythms of their regular lives.

Residency Responsibilities

  • Residency Cohort

      1. Attending all required residency cohorts (bi-weekly, except during the summer).
      2. Completing all required assignments, readings, and writing assignments.
      3. Working alongside other residents to complete final projects once a semester.

  • Support-Raising

      1. Maintaining a healthy support raising status
        1. 75% is required to do part-time work with their ministry team.
        2. 90% is required to do full-time work with their ministry team.
      2. Maintaining the relationship with their support team through monthly support updates.

  • Development and Discernment

    1. Constantly learning and helping lead alongside their direct supervisor in their designated ministry.
    2. Committing to being developed, evaluated, and receiving regular feedback.
    3. Create and regularly update a personal growth plan.

Ministry Track Responsibilities

  • Campus Worship Leadership – The Worship Resident (at the assigned campus) will assist the Campus Worship Leader (CWL) in responsibilities for recruiting, developing, supporting, shepherding, and leading any staff or volunteers who are part of the campus worship (band) and AVL team. This oversight will involve the following:

      1. Learning and helping how to add/onboard new band members, conducting auditions.
      2. Learning and helping how to build and maintain a leadership pipeline.
      3. Learning and helping how to equip leaders by the means of discipleship and leadership development.
      4. Learning and helping how to create a culture of care by regularly meeting with team leaders and members.
      5. Learning and helping to continue to cultivate the vision of being a multicultural church within the worship ministry at the campus level.

  • Worship Service Leadership – As a key leader at the assigned campus, the WR will help the CWL with the integral role of helping the local congregation to grow into maturity and understanding of worship by teaching, leading, and exhorting during church services and events as well as throughout the week. The WR will assist the CWL's, the Campus Pastors, and any other staff who lead the Weekend Worship ministries of Mercy, to carry out his/her responsibilities by helping lead in the following ways:

    1. Learning how to execute Sunday services which includes selecting songs, band scheduling and preparation.
    2. Learning how to prepare yourself personally for Sunday.
    3. Learning how to prepare to lead the band in worship.
    4. In time, learning how to lead certain service elements like "Call to worship" or other service elements as requested by CWL.
    5. Helping with all service planning elements for the worship gatherings at their campus.
    6. Coordinating participants in the Worship Services as needed and assigned by Campus Pastors.
    7. Help lead worship at various Mercy events (non-Sunday morning)
    8. Supporting other ministries or events, as assigned by the CWL or Campus Pastor, with coordinating or executing worship and AVL needs for these events.

General Expectations

  1. A Mercy Church Resident should be teachable and always exhibit professionalism, conscientious work ethic, and accountability. 

  2. A Mercy Church Resident needs to be willing and able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, with composure and flexibility. 


Office Hours and Work Schedule

  1. The hours for this position are expected to be approximately 40 hours per week. As one church that meets in several locations, there are several times throughout the year that Mercy Church holds church-wide events in order to do whatever it takes to reach all people. All staff members are expected to serve at these church-wide events, regardless of the positions they hold.
    1. Such events include, but are not limited to Easter services, Good Friday services, All-Church-Gathering, and Christmas services. Specific expectations will be communicated in advance of each event.
