Job Overview
The Chapel is hiring a full-time Worship Resident for a two-year residency program. This isn't just a job, it's a part of a training pathway. You'll lead worship for our college ministry gatherings (reaching Purdue students) and occasional Sunday morning services while being discipled, coached, and equipped to potentially lead worship full-time on a Salt Network church plant.
If you're a gifted worship leader with a pastoral heart for the next generation, and you sense God may be calling you to plant or join a church plant down the road, this residency is built for you.
Job Description
ABOUT THE CHAPEL
Who We Are: The Chapel is a church seeking to encounter, enjoy, and embody Jesus as a community. In our context, we accomplish this through prayer, ministries, and a Discipleship Pathway.
Ministries: Our ministries for young people include Chapel Kids, Chapel Youth, and our college ministry called Salt Company. Community members engage in discipleship through our Discipleship Pathway.
Other Details: Our Sunday and college ministry (Thursday nights) attendance is ~1200 people/week. We are a nondenominational church.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Schedule volunteers, plan, and lead worship for college ministry services in alignment with The Chapel's liturgy, songbook, teaching schedule, and methodology for gospel-centered liturgy planning.
- Lead worship for occasional Sunday morning services alongside our worship team.
- Recruit, lead, and shepherd student musicians and vocalists.
- Collaborate with staff on set lists, arrangements, and service flow for normal services and occasional special services as needed (Baptism services, Good Friday, Easter, etc.).
- Participate in a structured, multimodal residency curriculum including Theological Formation, Worship Ministry Competency Training, Leadership Training, and Spiritual Formation.
- Attend recurring staff meetings and a weekly 1-on-1 meeting with your direct report.
- Participate in the prayer rhythms of our staff team and church broadly.
- Lead a weekly, 2 hour discipleship group of student leaders within our college ministry.
- Take on increasing ownership of, and contribute increasing insight for, the worship team.
- Contribute leadership on Team Nights – events catered to spiritual and competency growth – for volunteers.
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
- Two years of hands-on, high-reps experience leading worship in front of hundreds of students weekly.
- Direct mentorship from our pastoral and worship staff with a personalized development plan.
- Training specifically aimed at church planting.
- A cohort of other residents, young leaders, and seasoned Worship Leaders in the network.
- A clear, honest next step: at the end of two years we'll help you discern the next right step for you, whether that is pursuing a different vocation or navigating applications for a church-planting team. There will be no obligation to plant with us specifically if God leads elsewhere.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Alignment with The Chapel's core beliefs (see bylaws + theology) and the Worship Teams' vision, values, and expectations.
- Someone daily walking with Jesus and willing to be fully involved in the life of The Chapel (Community involvement, church membership, and church discipleship).
- Strong vocal ability. Instrumental ability preferred with an option to incorporate instrumental training.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in any field.
- Ability to lead and execute worship service setup, rehearsals, services, and post-service SOPs.
- Ability to learn and use our administrative systems, including but not limited to Google Business Workspace, Propresenter, Playback, and Church Center applications.
- Prior experience leading worship in some capacity (church, campus ministry, camp, etc.). You don't need to be a seasoned professional, but we desire a baseline of experience.
- A shepherd's heart for college students and a genuine love for campus ministry.
- Comfortable with the ambiguity of a growth-oriented role: this is a developmental position.
- A culture fit on the Salt Company and Community staff teams – a step within the application process would include a visit to The Chapel.
- Willingness to relocate at the end of the residency if sent to plant or join a church plant elsewhere.
COMPENSATION + LOGISTICS
- First Year Full-time Salary: $33,000 – you will be expected and trained to support-raise a portion of this salary. The amount will vary depending on the involvement with Salt Company we discern is best.
- Benefits: Comprehensive insurance, PTO, moving allowance, retirement planning.
- Housing Accomodation: We can assist you in finding housing that meets your needs.
- Start date: TBD based on applicant – could be as early as Spring 2027.
- Term: 2-year residency, with a mutual review at the 1-year mark.
