Role Summary
The Mercy Young Adults Resident exists to develop, equip, and mentor young adults while leading and multiplying leaders within the ministry. This role provides practical experience in ministry leadership, operations, and discipleship, empowering residents to use their gifts and passions to advance the mission of Mercy Young Adults.
Residents will:
- Identify and use their unique spiritual gifts and passions in service to God and the ministry.
- Create environments where young adults can connect, grow, lead, and go.
- Lead teams, plan experiences, and disciple young adults while learning to manage ministry operations.
- Partner with the Young Adults Director and church staff to implement vision, strategy, and rhythms for the ministry.
Residency Responsibilities
- Residency Cohort

- Attending all required residency cohorts (bi-weekly, except during the summer).
- Completing all required assignments, readings, and writing assignments.
- Working alongside other residents to complete final projects once a semester.

- Support-Raising

- Maintaining a healthy support raising status
- 75% is required to do part-time work with their ministry team.
- 90% is required to do full-time work with their ministry team.
- Maintaining the relationship with their support team through monthly support updates.

- Development and Discernment

- Constantly learning and helping lead alongside their direct supervisor in their designated ministry.
- Committing to being developed, evaluated, and receiving regular feedback.
- Create and regularly update a personal growth plan.
Ministry Track Responsibilities
- Vision and Strategy Development

- Assists in designing and executing a clear vision for the young adult ministry that aligns with the mission and values of Mercy Church.
- Develop a strategic plan to launch and grow the ministry, including short-term and long-term goals.

- Experience Development and Leadership

- Plan, organize, and lead regular gatherings, groups, and socials.
- Create engaging and relevant experiences that help move people forward.

- Outreach and Engagement

- Build relationships with young adults within the church and in the surrounding community to invite and welcome into the movement.
- Identify and address barriers that prevent young adults from engaging with the church or taking steps of faith in their walk with Jesus.

- Discipleship and Mentorship

- Provide shepherd care, spiritual guidance, and mentorship with young adults.
- Equip and train young adult leaders to take ownership of ministry initiatives and grow in their faith by making disciples.

- Recruiter

- Recruit & develop young adults in the discipleship process.
- Recruit to short term trips.

- Secondary Role

- Serve our team and the young adult movement in an area based on your giftings and the needs of the ministry.

- Collaboration and Teamwork

- Work closely with the pastoral staff, worship team, and other ministry leaders to integrate young adults into the life of the church.
- Recruit, train, support, and develop a team of volunteers to execute the ministry vision.

- Administration and Communication

- Manage the Young Adult Ministry budget, resources, and event logistics with accountability and transparency.
- Communicate regularly with the young adult community through newsletters, announcements, and social media updates about ministry activities and opportunities.

- Church Staff Member

- Be the visible "young adult presence" on Sunday Mornings.
- Participate in all Mercy staff gatherings (retreats, staff prayer, etc.)
General Expectations
- A Mercy Young Adult Resident should be teachable and always exhibit professionalism, conscientious work ethic, and accountability.
- A Mercy Young Adult Resident needs to be willing and able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, with composure and flexibility.
Office Hours and Work Schedule
- The hours for this position are expected to be approximately 40 hours per week. As one church that meets in several locations, there are several times throughout the year that Mercy Church holds church-wide events in order to do whatever it takes to reach all people. All staff members are expected to serve at these church-wide events, regardless of the positions they hold.
- Such events include, but are not limited to Easter services, Good Friday services, All-Church-Gathering, and Christmas services. Specific expectations will be communicated in advance of each event.
