Job Overview

Smithfield Methodist Church (SMC) believes in making significant investments in the spiritual lives of the next generation. As the Director of Youth Ministries at SMC, you will serve as a spiritual leader and mentor to our church's youth, encouraging their growth in faith during their formative teen years. This part-time permanent position involves planning, coordinating, and leading youth programs and activities that encourage biblical learning, fellowship, community service, and leads the youth to personal faith in Christ that is lived out in their daily lives.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual guidance, support, and mentorship to middle and high school students with emphasis on leading them to proclaiming, and living out, their faith in Christ.
  • Develop and coordinate weekly youth group programming and curriculum.
  • Encourage youth participation/leadership in worship services, outreach projects, and church-wide activities.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and Christ-focused environment for all youth.
  • Engage with parents and church members to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for youth ministry programs (including "Ministry Safe" training).
  • Communicate regularly with parents, church staff, and volunteers to keep them informed about upcoming events, activities, and opportunities for involvement. This includes a short article each month for publication in the church newsletter.
  • Attend student functions at schools and home school events and grow relationships with the local school community.
  • Arrange, endorse, and lead special events, youth trips, and fundraisers for the youth group.
  • Work with the Pastor in developing the overall youth program.
  • Be accountable to the Pastor and Church Council for the work performed.
  • Provide consistent financial and attendance reports for the youth program as needed.
  • Maintain updated and accurate information on all youth inside of the SMC electronic database including name, address, phone number(s), age, school, and grade level.
  • Attend special Youth Ministry related events within our church, district, or conference.

Qualifications

  • Active Christian faith demonstrated in personal spiritual disciplines and dedication to church values.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Wesleyan theology and polity.
  • Experience working with youth in a church or similar setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate well to young people and families.
  • Background check required.
